I know someone who had their house listed on Zillow. But it came out later it was someone getting back at them for something.
Take a house. List for $100k under market in a hot spot (lakeview) and use the person's real phone number and address in the contacts.
But I don't own the title to my house and likely never will. So how can they steal it?
I don't get that.

Good luck trying to take my home for a loan I never took made with fraudulent information against a property I own.
I can’t see how that could ever be a thing.
Edit: above isn’t about title insurance - more that Title lock stuff they keep selling.

It’s cheap considering what it protects. Say if your property line is incorrect or something similar then this would protect you.
Just google title insurance and what it covers

Damn you just inspired a totally unethical business that can for sure get some gulibles.
" now for only $100 a month get $1m in Alien Abduction and probing coverage"
Bet I could sell at least 100 in a month online.

No I do not but I’m not willing to take the chance without the coverage

The only thing that would come of this is a homeowner getting unwanted phone calls about their property, unless the home buyer is an absolute moron

I say this in the most offensive manner possible...frick insurance companies and anyone associated in their scam. You pay your policy every month faithfully but when it's time to make a claim...like after Ida...the insurance company will lie, cheat, and steal at every opportunity to not pay out the full fair value of the claim. I'm literally having to sue my insurance company after Ida. Im having to pay out of pocket to get what I already paid for. its a complete fricking scam and F you if you support them.

It's real, it's rare, the insurance is BS.

I’m in the parish courthouse on a regular basis. While there I pop into the Clerk’s office and check the conveyance vendor index for my name. Only takes a minute or two. Most parish/county conveyance records are available online.

That's not what these people are selling.

I got only because the lawyer at closing recommended in my case because the crazy owner had a few ex-husbands or something like that and she was known to be a shady character. She broke rules of the contract already at closing, and broke things during moving/ left the place a mess, wouldn’t pay for the fridge she took/when it was supposed to stay. We asked for separate closing, so we didn’t have to see her. Then she came by the house later that day and just parked outside the driveway and sat there. We had to ask her to leave our property. Then I had sheriff office come by looking for her a few months later. So in my case I’m glad I did it for peace of mind.

There is no "title" like a car title. You record your purchase of the home in the mortgage and conveyance records. When you want to sell, you draw up a new cash sale and sell it to someone else, who records their cash sale in the mortgage and conveyance records. There is no "title" that you have to find to sell your home.

We keep the title for our double wide in a locked safe we bought at the local auction

Ok then I have no idea what they are selling

I have the papers from Attorney, but no other proof I own it. It is paid for.
What Clyde said. In Louisiana the deed is basically the conveyance record in the court house which says the property went from the deceased to you. That can be when an estate goes through probate.

There is no physical "title" to land and improvements like a car or a mobile-home. The validity of your title is established through an examination of public records. There are some cases where it's probably not necessary for a buyer to purchase it, but more times than not it's relatively cheap and its term is the lifetime of your ownership of the property. Kind of a no-brainer if you have even an inkling of doubt about the property's history.

Apparently you don’t have a clue what title insurance protects you against.

IDK, man... pretty sure I remember Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck fighting over a piece of paper labeled "Title Deed."
