Back when I was a cable installer, I was on the account at Emory hospital. It's where rich people would go for heart surgery, oil sheiks from the mideast, David Letterman, etc.

I got a work order one day for trouble on the phone line at the Emory hotel..

I show up and knock on the hotel room door and this blonde bombshell opens the door with all the typical trashy accoutrements (loud dress, jewelry, nails, etc). Very stereotype.

She's irritated, why am I there, I show her the work order, she says she didn't call in anything, asks who called it in, I say the requester on the work order was Mr. [Whatever, I don't remember] and she says "Well that's not my name, My name is Gotti" and them slammed the door in my face.

I wrote it up in the van and turned it in later, billed a half hour for it.

Theres like 2, maybe 3 people, on here that over the years have shown to have actual connections to the mob.

The life for 95% of mobsters is mostly shite and nothing to boast about

Yeah- I had an uncle by marriage who was supposedly involved in some mafia activity. Not high level stuff. He was always into shady stuff and apparently there were whispers among the family about him being “mobbed up”. When he died, well dressed men wearing shades arrived, walked up to give respects to him and the family, and left. Never took the glasses off, never said a word to anyone else. Like something from a movie.

And my mother worked with Carlos Marcello’s sister-in-law at a bank (they were both tellers). She learned how to make spaghetti sauce from their recipe. Good stuff. Apparently the SIL also had a lot of”accidents” at home and would wear scarves, sunglasses, and lots of makeup to cover up.

Back in the seventies and eighties a certain well known marine electronics company in New orleans did a lot of business with Carribean interests. Guys would bring them stripped down high speed offshore racing boats, have them install the latest navigation and radar systems, and pay in duffel bags of cash.

My Pop ran with a Copolla from Baton Rouge. Shady old dude. I mentioned collecting coins once, and he drove me to a bank, had them dump a shite load of coins from the safe so I could go through them. He got busted for some theft of a couple barges of oil or some such. Would have been early 80's.

A buddy married a girl from New Jersey and her family is in the mob. My buddy hasn't told me any gruesome stories but something about buying up some land in Atlantic city before some former President could buy it. They turned around and sold the land to the former President for a very nice profit..

My dad would get his hair cut by the old barber on Freret st. The shop was right next to Frank's steak house. And through years of conversation my dad was convinced the guy was in the mob. And I shite you not the barber's name was Soprano.

Per a former frat brother whose father was in the top 3 of organized bookies in N.O. for decades, the "family" still owns all the mule-driven carriages throughout the Quarter; adding that the mules were evacuated for Katrina long before the population was made aware of how bad the storm was going to become. Too, almost 100% of the "flat" parking lots, i.e., no garages, are still owned by the family. Only overhead is the buckets of yellow paint to re-stripe the parking lines.
