Personally? No. But I do have a recycling customer that I’ve been told is mafia owned. I don’t know if that’s true but the guy who told me is someone I trust.

In 1999 I moved to north Texas on my own at 17 yrs old. I was chasing a dream and had a few contacts in the area. Well I ended up getting drunk at a bar and an old cowboy in there started fricking with me. Said no real cowboys ever came from La. Me being 17, drunk, and a damn sure cowboy I called him out the bar to discuss it further. He pulled out an Arkansas toothpick on me and luckily I had a friend there to save me.

Turns out the old man was tied in with the mafia and I offended and elder or some shite. Turned into a big ordeal where they had to meet out at a lake and get the heat off me.

My gramps ran numbers and card games. Came to America from Sicily when he was 5. 13 years later he was drafted into WW2. Moved from New York to Louisiana for a “job opportunity”. His sister never married, had a “boyfriend”, 2 restaurants, a couple of houses and a Cadillac. His brother established a legit business in upstate New York.

Back in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s I had a great-great uncle who wasn’t in the mafia, but ran a waste disposal company in the northwest and would allow the mafia the use of certain equipment, no questions asked. That’s all I got.

I’ve known people that were suspected of being involved in criminal enterprise stuff. It’s never like Hollywood portrays. These people are greasy, grimy underbelly types.

My Pop ran with a Copolla from Baton Rouge. Shady old dude. I mentioned collecting coins once, and he drove me to a bank, had them dump a shite load of coins from the safe so I could go through them. He got busted for some theft of a couple barges of oil or some such. Would have been early 80's.

The Coppolas are pretty well established and legit family in BR.

Every Italian in the NOLA metro area claims some sort of connection to Carlos Marcello. I always found it odd that so many people were proud to claim they were related to a thug who just dressed nice.

What am I stopping? He was godfather to quite a few matassas... And more than that to others.

Exactly, I have a co-worker like this, said he could take care of folks if he needs to. But it's really BS.

The Italian mafia is all but gone in this country, for sure in terms of significance and power to where they were even 30 years ago.

Russian and Chinese Mafia much more significant and powerful these days.

Supposedly there are still over 3,000 active members in the mafia. Do you know any members or do you suspect anyone you know may be a part of an originized crime family? Or have you ever had a run in with anyone you think may have been a part of the mafia?
My 2nd cousin was a hitman for the Dixie Mafia. Does that count?
