It's irresponsible to keep them not locked up. Just because a safe CAN possibly be cracked doesn't mean you shouldn't try to keep it locked

2 pistols in home not locked up but hidden strategically.
Same here. My dad was the same way and I didn't know he had pistols until I was 10 or so.

This really depends on the size and layout of the house.

Yep. I raised my kids around guns, but the firearms were kept locked up just the same. Now the kids are all growed up....but the guns get locked up when I'm not around.

No, I have them interspersed at tactical locations throughout the house. I feel bad for the home invader that decides to strike while I'm on the shitter.

Then why in the hell did you respond in this thread? To tell everyone you don't have a gun? Attention whore much?
To the OP, I keep my firearms not used for home defense locked up.

Call it what you will, but it's best practice and logically sound to do so.

And I would trust my 10 year old with a gun before most adults.
He knows not to play around and if he wants to go shoot, all he has to do is ask and we will go shoot a couple boxes.

It's code in EBR to have one in every bedroom and hallway. I'm sure the code is similar in most places.

You ever heard the phrase "you don't know what you don't know until you know it"? You should think about that for a second. If someone has more than 2 loaded firearms (doesn't really matter the number) in their house that means nothing more than if someone breaks into their house they are prepared. Sorry you aren't prepared.
Love that logic.
ETA: I don't think it's a bad idea to have multiple, but it depends on how big and the layout of your house. But I was merely pointing that, yes, at some point it certainly can be overkill and paranoia to keep too many loaded guns around a house.

Safer to leave the guns out and lock the kids in the safe instead.
Kids are fricking dangerous.

I keep a 9mm downstairs, not locked but the kids can get to it, I keep a 20 guage shotgun on the top shelf of my closet, again the kids cant reach it, and I keep a .380 in my nightstand and a .40 in my truck. None of them are locked up.
My kids are 12 and 9. They are educated and responsible enough to know these guns are not toys and know better than to even look at them much less touch them.

I own a gun, but I'm pretty realistic to know that if someone with a gun breaks in, it's kinda 50/50. And if 3 or 4 guys with guns break in, I'm more than likely going down fighting, hoping I can take out 1 or 2 before they more than likely get me.

Not sure it's been mentioned but to all the, "You're just paranoid if you have an unlocked gun" commenters, do you feel the same way about fire extinguishers? Or does criticizing someone's ownership of fire extinguishers not fulfill your need to display internet intellectual superiority over all of us gun-owning Philistines?
Posted on 7/5/16 at 12:30 pm to SoFla Tideroller
When is the last time a fire extinguisher killed someone?
Posted on 7/5/16 at 12:33 pm to dbeck
Like 4' something. The gun is like 8' high. They can't reach it.

Neither did the smoke alarm one.
