Do you keep your gun locked up with no kids?

Why the emphasis lately on locking your gun away even if you have no kids? If someone breaks into your home and takes your gun to shoot someone, there's no way that you can be held responsible, right? A safe isn't uncrackable. And precious seconds can be lost in the scramble to unlock a safe to retrieve your PDW.
Kids? Yeah, lock it up. No kids? Why is it bad if I keep in my nightstand?

I don't have a gun, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

i have 30-40 locked away in a safe. But i keep a handgun on the night stand, a shotgun in the corner, and a 22magnum rifle behind my door.

I do not have kids, and no, it's not locked up. It's not easily accessible either.

We don't have kids (yet). My guns aren't locked up, but they are hidden.

.45 on the nightstand, various shotguns and rifles all over my apartment. Anyone enters, they're fricked.

No kids in my house but I do have a safe that most are locked up in. I also have several within reach or a quick jump from the bed if the situation were to arise.

I was robbed last October. Among the many things stolen were my guns.
Unless I had a 500 lb safe, they still would have gotten stolen.
