Creativity has sure fallen off over the past few decades apparently.

If everyone is doing it, how creative is it?

I mean, kids are pretty individualistic and get to a point where they do their own thing.

Side note: The WOKE nation will tell you to be less judgemental. Take a look around and see what being "less judgemental" has brought us.

I told my daughter that if she came home with wildly colored hair, I’d shave her head like Sinéad O'Connor. She did not know who Sinéad O'Connor was and once looking her up, decided on a darker shade of brown

Generally no because kids are weird and do weird shite.

Kids / teens go through phases and their parents don't know what to do about it so they just tolerate it.

Some stuff I do judge a bit because it just tells me they're soft, since the exchange probably went like:

"I'm dyeing my hair purple and getting a nose piercing"

"Okay sweetie, whatever you want"

Vs

"I'm dyeing my hair purple and getting a nose piercing"

"Like frick you are. You're grounded for even suggesting something that retarded. Now go outside and help your mother do some gardening."

It was ballsy 30 years ago. Then the fat women decided it was necessary, and everyone does it.

I'll probably do like my dad did me.

Drive me through the ghettos and bad trailer parks at day and night. Then ask me if I want to grow up and be like that trash...

Message was received from about 8. Get and keep your crap together. Worked out well for me.

No, but I judge them by their reaction to it.

If they hate it and fight it, then good.

If they are supportive and permissive, bad.

I more pity them.

If I know they are shitty parents, then I will judge them.

The old joke about conformity. Girl hung a sign on the wall that said "I'm a non conformist." When asked by the dad why, she said "Because everyone has one."

My younger brother is a good example. The kid popped out of the womb with a chip on his shoulder. He has always been contrary, entitled, and argumentative. He makes terrible decisions and the fallout is never his fault.

I know a guy like that. He says it's because his older brother was such an a-hole all his life.

Define weird?

When I was young being eccentric was a source of pride for communities across the state. If you define that as weird, I am all for it as it makes life more fun and different.

How much of this is being different as a person and how much of this is trying to be cool when it is not really cool and shallow as a sheep.

As for me I grew up around HST, and I like his thinking on the subject.

I have a weird son and two very normal daughters. All three grown. He has ear gauges, tattoos and piercing. One of the kindest persons you’ll ever meet. Has values and morals. Still says yes sir and no ma'am. Has earned his apprenticeship as an electrician and makes good money. He also a caring brother and a great uncle. Granted, he is different and doesn’t connect with me very well. As he does with my wife. But, I have his back until the end always. He’s better than some “normal” kids in many aspects.

This works for normal kids. It doesn't work with kids that have serious issues like bi-polar or in my daughter's case borderline personality disorder.

When she was 3 or 4, we got on to her about cleaning her room. We told her that if she didn't pick her toys up, we were going to donate them to needy kids. She looked at us, went to the kitchen, and came back with trash bags for the toys. We packed them up and gave them away. What kind of parenting wizardry overcomes that? And yes, she has an obnoxious amount of tattoos and piercings, but at least she's maintaining a job and a boyfriend. Two things I never thought possible tbh.
