He wastes a lot of time playing video games. You waste a lot of time talking to strangers on an internet message board.
Explain the difference.

I'm a gamer. I play video games to relax after a long day at work.

One is at work, the other is at home (I assume)
that is the difference, at least in my case
and I already stated that I'm sure some people would find some of my hobbies (posting on TD to be included) to be weird

Weird isn't exactly the word I would use to describe erotic animal voyeurism.

I'm 24 and single. After a stressful day at work, you can bet your arse I'm playing some 2K or Overwatch when I get home from the gym. I'm not staying up till 4am or anything, just something fun to do if you're not going out. Obviously different if you have a family
I think OP's views on games will be pretty commonplace until everyone over 40 dies. After that, the current generation will see it as a normal thing. Kids are playing more games than ever

What are your hobbies? What makes them inherently more valuable than playing video games?
I read fiction and play chess, which is essentially what people had instead of video games 100+ years ago. It practically is just a video game nowadays because most people play online. It's not really any better inherently. It is a richer, deeper game than most, but it is still just a game.
Eta: my grandparents used to like to play cards. My sibling and cousins and I would play with them occasionally. We played liverpool rummy. Guess what that was. That's right--a game.

I'm 55 and for years, I've gone to my buddy's house and beat his kids at Madden. No big deal.

In a world of rapists, thieves, and murderers a guy who likes to wind down with some Call of Duty isn't the problem

I play a lot of cards with my family when we get together. I feel like the familial and social aspect is different than video games. I know these days all these games are played online with people from all over, but that's not quite the same as sitting down with friends and family.
Again though, if that's someone's hobby, they can go for it. This is still America, god dammit!

As opposed to what? A guy spending his time asking a bunch if f other guys on a message board about their feelings?

I play like 30 minutes of FIFA a night after I'm done working and before getting in bed. It's just how I unwind (instead of drinking) on weeknights. It's more of a routine really, I'm not shite talking 13 year olds on a headset.
Every few months I may spend a couple hours on another game, COD type of stuff, but pretty rarely.
Really it just gives me something mindless to do at night when I don't want to watch TV or be on the computer (but I can't really got outside or work out or something).

It's better than paying for a premium cable package and watching trash reality shows all evening. At least it's stimulating your brain a bit.

You can play cards socially or solitary. The same can be done with video games. I haven't done anything like this since I was maybe in middle school or something, but I do know that some people have "game nights" and such where they get together with friends.

Not necessarily. I'm 32 and have really good friends that live in every time zone either due to being in the military or relocating for work. Playing games like Destiny together on weekends is when we are all able to get together as a group and catch up. It's functionally no different than talking on the phone with them.

Absolutely none. People who do things that I don't do are the worst people.

What is the difference between someone coming home and playing video games all day and someone coming home and watching TV all day?
It would be one thing if you're filling in that time with meaningful activities like spending time with your wife/kids or beneficial activities like exercise, reading, or practicing a skill, but if you're just wasting time, why is there a stigma related to playing video games? This is not 1985. Video games have evolved into an interactive storytelling medium. They are just as valid as books/movies in terms of telling an entertaining story.
It seems to me if you're going to hate on people playing video games, you should hate on people being unproductive in general.
