The recent caselaw has basically given the banks zero liability for losing or just throwing away your stuff. (And it's surprisingly common.) Only Amateurs put them in their real names.

Get a trust and put the box in the trust.

Have a safe deposit room on the vault level of my underground bunker. It is filled with gold bullion and negotiable bearer bonds. I also have a suitcase box with the key in it so I don't lose it. It's fireproof! (allegedly)

Mines at home in a gun safe. Money well spent. No more paying xx per month and if an emergency, you won’t get into that vault anyways.

I have a small fireproof safe located inside of a large, fireproof gun safe that's bolted to the foundation. No need for the deposit box.

I do, just so I can go to the bank and tell the branch manager in front of others to "take me to my millions!"

Research before storing stuff in a bank box.

The recent caselaw has basically given the banks zero liability for losing or just throwing away your stuff. (And it's surprisingly common.)

Caselaw has also given law enforcement lots of leniency to raid at will, seize, and keep whatever they find, even when the raid/warrant/purpose was for someone else's box.

FBI went to a bank and just drilled and emptied ALL of the boxes, just because they could.

Plus the boxes now either lose money or don't make enough for it to be worth the bank's trouble, so most are trying to get rid of them.

You definitely don't see them getting installed at many newly constructed branches.

I know an attorney who bought a former branch for his office, still has a vault and safe boxes. Seemed to me like he could provide a good service of offering confidential secure storage.
