LMAO I drank for free that night.
CSB, except that FL shuts down lottery ticket sales at 10:40 on the night of the draw, and when they first started, it was earlier than that

First time I ever bought a lottery ticket was in the early 90’s, before Louisiana had a lottery
On the drive to Disney World, I bought like $5 worth of tickets, (quick picks), at a gas station just across the Florida border off of I-10. Was one of those, “hell, why not” moments.
Well a few weeks after we got back home, my girlfriend asked if I ever checked to see if I won anything with those tickets.
So I called the phone number on the back of the ticket to get the winning numbers, (pre Internet time), and ended up matching 4 of the 6 numbers. The two numbers I didn’t match, they both were off by just one number, (like the remaining two numbers were like 35 - 42 and I had 36-43)
Think the jackpot was around $10 million at the time, so in my eyes, my quick picks just missed
Forgot exactly how much I won but it was around $400.
Haven’t won shite since.
I’ll occasionally buy a quick pick when the jackpots get over $200 million. Every now and then will win maybe $5 or $10. But I have certainly given them more than they have given me.

Do you have a lottery story?
Yes.
I was in the gas station to buy a roll of Copenhagen. The guy in front of me was buying like 30 or 40 different lottery tickets. "Naw, that one. Yeah... 5 of them. and 5 of that one..." and then had to count out his money to pay for them. Holding up the whole dang line.
VERY irritating.

My mom won 500 scratch-offs in a radio contest in the 90's.
We scratched them all off and they were about 50% winners almost to the dollar.
That should tell you about what your odds are of winning on a scratch off.

I hit 4 numbers and the Powerball about 15 years ago when the jackpot was $258 Million. I thought I had won $100K but only won $10K. Missed the last number by 2 so it took several checks before I convinced myself I had not won the jackpot.
Got $7,500 after taxes and splurged on a much needed new washer and dryer and banked the rest.
I still buy a few tickets when the jackpot gets really big, but really just for the thrill of temporary dreaming.

I won the lottery once!!!
I was swimming with millions of other swimmers, and I made it to the finish first. I buried my head in the sand I was so exhausted, my tail fell off, and the rest is history.
I'm sure there's a joke here about lots of winners in your mom's vag, right?

Too stupid to even have that much money.
Since there is a generous period of time to claim the prize, why do the winners never establish residency in an income tax free state before claiming the money? That alone could be worth $millions extra in their pockets.
Why do they not also "live" on a boat/yacht and avoid property taxes with their winnings? Again, easy way to keep money in their pockets by avoiding taxation.
Some simple things to do that make substantial financial sense that stupid people never think of.

My office (previous job) won the lottery the week before I started.
I think there were about 40 people in the pool and they won 30k or so a piece.
In St. Rose.

Doesn't work that way. You have to claim the ticket and pay taxes in the state where you purchased it.

Anyone, lottery winner or not, can avoid property tax by not owning property. Property tax is assessed on the value of the property you own, not your personal wealth.

Guy in Denham played the same lotto numbers every week. Lotto was around a million. He gave the clerk at murphy oil the slip to run. She ran the slip and sat the slip on the counter. Another employee picked up the slip and ran it again. So now there was two tickets with the same number. They got into a argument and gave the guy a chance to buy both tickets. He got mad and left with one ticket. They sold the other ticket to the next person. Conclusion. The numbers hit the jackpot and instead of the guy getting the whole million, he had to split it with the other ticket. Last I heard he was trying to sue Murphy Oil. This was probably 6-7 years ago

I am a fan of a classic prank so if this did happen congrats to you.
The only lottery type story I have is that I know a guy who won $75k on a scratch off and he gave his parents $20k to make up for the money he stole from them to go gamble with.
I do remember when Louisiana started selling scratch offs and it was a big thing for about a month.. People going in and buying $100 worth of scratch offs, etc. Im sure the state racked up that first month. I think Edwin Edwards was governor then. No telling where some of that money went.

Sortve of a lottery story...….
Around 1999-2000 was working on a project close to New Orleans. One of our contractors held a raffle for St Judes. $20/ticket and they raffled of a mix of 10 sporting guns (long guns and shoguns) in 10 days off the Pick 3 numbers that hit that day. Bought a ticket and won a .44 Mag rifle....great brush or hog gun. After the dust settled cussed myself for not buying a pick 3 ticket with the same numbers.

Yes one time I bought two lotto tickets and went into the store to buy a six pack and remembered I'd bought them so I grabbed a winning ticket printout and matched five of six numbers only to realize minutes later it was from the week before...... Got all excited over nothing

I won a free ticket on a scratch off ticket on Christmas. It's still in my wallet because I keep forgetting to get another ticket.
