Do you ever think about the concept of eternity?

I'm 30 years old. And while I realize I'm still young, I also know that I won't be young forever. And one day, sooner or later, I will die. While I have always known that the end result of life is death, it wasn't until more recently that I realized my own mortality. And since that time, I occasionally have philosophical discussions with myself. And the most common one revolves around the concept of eternity.
Death is not something, at least to our knowledge, you wake up from. It's permanent. There is no escaping it. And what really makes me think is the thought of what happens after we die. I mean....does everything just go dark and stay dark forever? Does your consciousness somehow live on and you remain suspended in a never-ending dream? Or do we just fade away into nothingness? And if we do, what is nothingness?
And getting into spirituality and religion for a second, let's say there is life after death. Let's say we do go to Heaven to be with God. Could you imagine spending all of eternity in one location? A place where you don't die and you just live on forever. I find that concept just as difficult to grasp as the idea that we just cease existing when we die.
These are concepts that my brain is just too simple to grasp. The idea of eternity is intriguing but it does scare me.

You are going to feed worms.
But not before becoming the unwitting sex toy for the guy that will be preparing your body for burial.

The only eternity is leaving a legacy. Carrying on your line and hopefully leaving enough impact that you are remembered long after you are dust.

Mmmm, lately I’ve been thinking about time like this. Space/time are a dimension. The Big Bang originated as a point and the universe has expanded since then. So it may not be perfextly accurate but th bpassage of time can be considered as a measurement of distance in a weird way.
So Eternity is just a continuation of distance

The big philosophical thought of sentient beings. Lost a lot of sleep and it scares the shite out of me. I must be more morbid than you because it started scaring me as a child. First real extremely hard impact happened one night when I was 19. Broke out in a sweat and didn’t sleep at all. Cut class at LSU the next day.
It’s either oblivion or afterlife. We have no scientific proof for or against either. My sleepless night focus on that word Oblivion. Horrifying. Personal extinction. Inevitable.
At about 6AM that morning I prayed to the Christian God to soothe me. Instantly calm and warmth washed over me, and I fell asleep. Personal Revelation? Physical and mental exhaustion? I don’t know. But I still find some comfort in the memory today.
Finally philosophy, why does the universe exist? I find “it always was” an unsatisfactory answer intellectual. Creation demands a creator. Something all powerful (by definition) created all matter, energy, and physical laws. All that we know, can know, and can’t know.
When I create something I care about it, be it a birdhouse or my children. All sentient beings I know feel the same way. Therefore it’s reasonable that the Creator cares about creation, and I am part of creation. I need an afterlife, and a caring Creator would give me one. I need a satisfactory after life. “Could you imagine spending all of eternity in one location?” No, that would not be satisfactory, and therefore that is not what Heaven is like. God would provide a satisfactory Heaven, or he would transform our beings (souls) into a satisfied soul. We cannot know the what and how of it. But my parent’s and friend’s love for me, and my love and efforts for them and my children bodes well. I have no proof but it is intellectually consistent. Sometimes I have faith. But I’m almost always afraid.
Think about. Like now, talk about it. I hope you find a faith that provides comfort like my prayer’s answer. And I hope the comfort, love, joy, and contentment last an eternity. Whatever that proves to be.
Hope I helped. Discussion helps me. Thank you.

What if you already "died" and this is your consciousness continuing on? What if when we die, we never skip a beat and get up and continue "living life" as we knew it before? For example, what if when I flipped my truck, I died to everyone else but my consciousness lived on and made me believe I got out and walked home? What if none of this is "real"?

Your legacy is temporary as well.
Think about all the "progress" humanity has made in the past 100 years. Now think about humanity 100 years from now. Cell phones will be bad arse. Then think about fast-forwarding another 1,000 years beyond that. Some crazy AI, robot, cyborg shite will be developed by then right?
Now think about adding another 1,000 years on top of that and repeat it 10 more times.. pretty wild to imagine. Go on for another 100,000 years of technological innovation. Now multiply that by another 100,000. You get the picture. We are insignificant, very temporary creatures.
The way we think about cows and mice dying is probably pretty similar to the truth about what happens when we die.

Never really bought into the whole legacy business. I'm dead. I'll never be able to appreciate the street named after me or my great-great grandkids going to Johns Hopkins.

All your anxieties will be gone because you will be with Christ.

I believe that when you die your consciousness/spirit ends up in a place where everything and every time is all one.
It is permanent, but not static. Every single thing that has occurred and will occur in human history is there to see and experience in real time.
Oh yeah, spoilers.
