I’ve struggled with my own mortality as well of late. Call it a crisis of faith or a natural evolution of thought, regardless, I believe it’s something that affects most adults at some point. I choose to believe that the thoughts and questions that mortality provokes is part of the pathway to a deeper relationship with God. It’s also why the Christianity of childhood, which for many people is their whole understanding of their proclaimed faith, isn’t enough to truly sustain through adulthood. There has to be a cultivated and continued relationship with the Creator in order to accepr mortality, grow in our faith, and move beyond a “Sunday School understanding”.
But the questions, the type you’re experiencing, run through the minds of the ardent believer. And the ardent non-believer. I still wrestle with them.

Faith:
Christ came to earth and died as a substitutionary atonement for my sins.
I will spend eternity in the presence of God with Christ at his right hand (heaven).
What that will be like is an unfathomable concept to the human mind, which leads us back to faith. I try to accept it without overthinking it.
Reality:
Life, for the most part, is hell, which again leads us back to faith and hope for the hereafter.
I don't understand how anyone can be without faith and not be miserable.
