Same here. And the one time I thought that something was out of my comfort zone, the pro I called out was a jerk who didn't fix everything and left water running out of my water heater's T/P valve. Cost me more in the long run because I got someone else to come out and fix that screw up. That finally convinced me to at least try everything on my own first. In the end I'm to the good because I probably saved myself about $5k this year fixing stuff on my own.

It's been ok the last few months, but the year my wife died, between a slow down in my field, and not having time to chase new clients, and just the general shittyness of having a sick spouse... I racked up over 100K in debt. Every time I opened the mailbox there was a $1,000 doctor bill in there.

I'm digging out of it now, but if something like an air conditioner replacement came up, id be screwed.

I always budget to pay off between 1500 and 2 grand a month, but by the time I get through the month it is usually like 800 to 1200.

Don’t own a home, so yes. Almost every month. I know that will change with age.

Honestly, not that often come to think of it. Big expense is relative I guess but there seems to be some unexpected or unavoidable spending pretty regularly.
