I think the opposite. Psychedelics can have the effect of evening you out mentally and be a very personal spiritual experience. It may be a remedy somebody that's having these mental breakdowns need. It's also helped people break addictions like opiates and alcoholism as well. I think they get an irrational really bad rep all things considered for whatever reason.

I'm not saying it's a cure all or some miracle drug FWIW. Like, you take this and everything is all gravy. You still gotta put in the work to better yourself but these things have been shown to give people suffering from these mental ailments a better outlook and thus more motivation to put in the work to better themselves.

Or you could have a bad trip and end up running around butt naked in a Walmart parking lot yelling all sorts of crazy shite. I know someone that's done exactly that.

Why was he tripping balls in a walmart parking lot? Doesnt seem like the best of settings for this and doesnt seem like this was something planned for betterment of the psyche. And that goes with my previous sentiment of people using it irresponsibly and that's what leads to bad trips most of the time.

I dont know of OP's history personally so maybe I'm out of the loop. But being a loony can be helped with psychs. At least ones that, to quote good old Les, "have the want" to better themselves which is what I took away from the OP. But by me saying "taking acid" I dont mean go to your nearest walmart parking lot trip balls and get into mischief, I thought that went without saying.
