When I moved into my house the owners were lazy fricks, they yard was shite and they didnt edge in years. It had grown over the sidewalk 4" on both sides. Took me weeks to cut it back. My neighbor was the same way. 3 years later he finally edged after me making his yard look like it was in a trailer park. It was so bad the part under the grass was clean and not dirty like the rest.

I can tell you this - one of those battery-powered Workx does the cleanest edging around the driveway and street and I have ever been able to do . Beats a a trimmer or regular edger hands-down.I would not use it as a trimmer though. But for edging it is the tits

I have a Ryobi weed trimmer with an edger attachment. I have a pole saw attachment for it, too. I've had it for nearly 20 years now, and it has never failed to start on the 1st or 2nd pull...even after being in storage over the winter.

I have people that do this for me.
But seriously, even when I did cut my own grass, I edged. I'm not putting all that work in, then skip something that makes it look 100 times better and only adds about 15% more work.

Get a four stroke edger and put two blades on it.
The double blades get you a sharper edge and the blades will last so much longer. I learned this from an Indian (dot not feather)engineer friend of mine. He was right.

I use a ryobi lithium stick edger. Works like a charm, but the blade needs to be sharp

Walk behind is the way to go. I have a Troy Built 4 strokes that's excellent. I have a corner lot wrapped by a sidewalk so it was justified.
