The blades last twice as long and when you replace them you replace 2 instead of 1.

I have a walk behind gas that I put two blades, spaced apart with a washer. I edged a few times and now I just use the weedeater to maintain. My edge is the best in the hood. Neighbors have actually commented on my edge and have sent their lawn guy over to see. I'm one of the few in the hood that still mows his own yard.

To clarify again though, do you line the blades up, do you stagger them so there is actually six points, or does it matter at all?

Use an edger maybe once or twice and year. Use string trimmer otherwise.
