I've been thinking about my drinking splits for the last 10 minutes because of this thread.
I think it is this:
40% to relax either after work, by the pool/on the patio, or after a mowing the lawn, etc.
50% taste - love a good bourbon or martini, love a great wine pairing with food, love some good craft beer
10% celebrate/socialize - combining these because I don't celebrate alone
Not drinking Monday-Thursday has really helped my overall health (and sleep). But I still go hard in the paint on weekends

Never drink when you are down / sad. It'll be the beginning of the end.
Heard this from several alcoholics.
Thankfully, when I'm down or sad, I don't have alcohol urges. I have long shower urges or hard labor urges (like a hard workout or working hard in the yard).

Yes, coming to terms with it and raising that white surrender flag make it a lot easier to give it up, that's for sure.

He realized he only drinks to celebrate (and tgif counts!) Most alcoholics I know said they drink to forget/cope.
I used to drink only in social environments- not necessarily a restriction I placed purposefully. I just never was much of a drinker outside of get together an and whatnot.
After the helicopter crash in 2010 and the subsequent life altering shite that was the rest of that year, I quit drinking altogether. Mainly because I isolated and found it extremely difficult to be social for quite a while.
I’ve only recently started drinking again a few years ago. I think for me, I grew tired of the Baptist Bible Belt telling me alcohol was a sin and society in general dictating my life choices.
I also got to a point in my life/age where I gave a great big huge “frick right off” to all the bullshite life throws at me.
TL:DR
I drink when I’m celebrating something, I drink socially, I enjoy wine each light when I’m relaxing at the end of a work day, and sometimes when I’m sad I’ll drink bc it helps me cry. (I find it very difficult to cry- not sure why that is but crying doesn’t come easily for me).

I drank to feel drunk. I thought I had more fun drunk. Things were better. Realized things were awful way more times than fun, but I was too drunk to notice. Other people noticed, but I was shite faced. So since I only drank to get hammered, and that rarely turned out well, I quit drinking 2.5 years ago.

I drink because I like beer.

I drink too get a buzz I rarely get full on drunk. I hate headaches and too much liquor gives me a headache.
I'd rather do drugs than get shitty drunk.
Though only THC and the occasional psilocybin.

She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard,
sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember,
some dance to forget

This is exactly what I do! There's always a fence that need repairing and by the end of the day you are to tired to drink anyway. Stay busy work hard sweat it out! Then maybe get a beer with friends at the end of the day!

I don’t need a reason to drink

I drank to cope. Used it as a crutch.
Sober since the new year. Not a drop.

I dunno. Sometimes I just crave a cold beer.

I used to drink to get a good buzz. But it ended up making me more and more depressed to the point of just not caring anymore… I’d have a real nice buzz and still have beer left and drank them anyway even though I did not need them. Best choice I’ve ever made was to stop drinking all together….

That’s about me too all around. Sometimes I’ll celebrate a little on Wed night and not Thursday.

I drink to numb my strong opinion that society is doomed and America is a late stage empire that my kids will have to experience.
