Every time you need it.

The auto elite is nice but does he really need what is essentially a switchblade as a teenager? The standard buck 110 is just meat and potatoes but I did put a thumb stud on mine. Regardless of which one you get your boys they will cut themselves on accident at some point lol

Absolutely not. Plus, I think in terms of scouts and they could not bring that on a camp out (they have a life outside of scouts but usually they bring their knives to show off)

Oh yeah. I supervised wood carving at Cub Scout camp - I had the band aids ready #3 burned himself lighting the candles at church this morning

Check out TOPS brand knives if you are interested in a fixed blade for one of them. Might I recommend the fieldcraft, the second picture of mine is the fieldcraft folder

I rarely carry a knife as well. I always had one at my desk in my office. I keep one in my vehicle and I carry one when I go camping, fishing, hunting, or just in general gonna be outdoors. I have forgotten I had one in my pocket too many times and had it taken when going through security.

Have a Case I have carried every day since High School.

Wow, they usually last me about a year or two. I've lost a couple and broken the rest. Usually from using them for non-knife jobs like a small lever or screwdriver. My current daily knife is a Kershaw, $40-50, but I've got no idea what model. I've got some nicer ones in my sock drawer but I never carry them. I can be rough on tools.

I have a standard “manual” 110. One of the best EDC knives you can own. The auto is a bit much.

It is, especially considering it's only S30V blade steel and G10 scales. But if you are a fan of the brand, the style of knife, and it still being USA made then maybe it's worth the premium. My current EDC came in a little under $400 and it's not the most expensive one I own, I've got a small box full of folding knives that are $200+. Small potatoes though when there are pocket knives well past $2,000, I know a guy who EDC's a Marfione custom that probably costs as much as a modest Rolex.

I don't carry a pocket knife, but this thread reminds me of my dad. He carries a pocket knife and fingernail clippers at all times, and in the winter, he's always got a handkerchief. He'll blow his nose on that thing and fold it up and put it right back in his pocket.
