I find that with basically anything in life you will find more happiness in doing it to the best of your ability.

You don't have to love what you do, but you will find more purpose and meaning in your work (and enjoy it more) if put forth effort and take pride in the quality of your work.

well said, pecker.... i totally agree...

i strive to be very good at my job because i find satisfaction in making a positive impact in my patients' lives, as well as making my co-workers' jobs easier because i'm pulling my (and a lot of times theirs as well) weight...

i'll never understand the "just collecting a check" mentality...

Paying the bills is easier when your check is bigger and that happens when you are good at your job

A lot depends on nature of work. Not just pay structure. Most jobs dont require much in way of ambition or education. The ones that require more of these attract more Type A folks.
More went into becoming a Doctor so perhaps it brings more satisfaction.

My guess is you are not setting up demos for some CRM company, or soulless job like that.
I was morally sick from a past job and had to quit. Basically I was to promote a client that marketed get rich from flipping houses company.

Gov employee here.

No further explanation needed.

No seriously I use to try really hard until I finally learned that you can’t beat politics. All about who you know!

I have many teachers in my family. They all work hard. However, in most jobs, you get paid for overtime. I have seen my family members work competitions and school related activities on Saturdays. They go to work at 7:30 and often get home around 6:00. That’s almost 2 and a half hours a week that are worked for free, not including a Saturday or two every month.

They could volunteer their time less, still be decent at what they do, and still make the same money.

I don’t really care about my job, but I still want to be good at it so I can speak intelligently and confidently when I need to stand my ground.

I don't see the point of doing my job if you aren't trying to run the place in the future.

Because it pays well, it's low stress, and I can work remotely.

If I ran the place, it would be high stress and I wouldn't be able to work remotely. It would pay a shite ton more though

I used to care. Really, I did. Then they decided that it was more important that the person doing this job was in the DC metro area than it was that I was doing the job. So now I'm just going through the motions until July 1. frick 'em.

both...outside sales...great salary....great bonus structure that is partly tied to company performance and partially to my growing margin....so I get lazy sometime when I'm not traveling, working from home...heck at home I may work 4 hours a day...and have been with same company for over 20 years

I worked in a union for the first five years of my career. I actually landed the job through the company, but had to join the affiliated union. Then I went to work for a private company. It was night and day on the give a shite factor. I had never worked so hard in my career. It instilled great pride and confidence in my work. While with the union, mediocrity was preserved.

I cannot imagine not having pride in my job.
