What is the point of doing something if you aren't trying to be the best? If I'm committing 25% of my life to something, I'm not going to half-arse it.
I don't see the point of doing my job if you aren't trying to run the place in the future.

Well, you don't write too good (well), so we know you're not getting paid for that.

Good point yellow hammer. Maybe some people realize after a decade of the same job, it doesn’t interest them as much. It’s super expensive to go get another major in college these days. That’s what is needed to change careers and not have to start at the VERY bottom.

I've found my level of give a shite waxes and wanes. Right now it's in the shitter.

Yes I care. I have a wife and two kids reliant on my ability to do my job.

Always an a-hole in the bunch. And no I do not write for a living. But we can see just how steady your hands are at Sonic.

I am pretty bored in my job. Part of it is because I am the newest one here, part of it is because the work is cyclical. The end of each quarter is busy but besides that its slow. The environment is also very laid back. All my work is done by 11:00 most days unless I decide to put it off until the afternoon.
The job pays well and there is pretty clear path to being on the executive team if I stick it out but damn sometimes the days are slow.

I work to live, but definitely care how good I am at my job. It reflects back on me. I don't want to be a shitty employee, that's annoying to my superiors and coworkers.
Yes, I play around on this site during the day, but only when my work is done and done well.

I eat what I kill so I have to be proficient, but put me in the "work to live" category.

I’m in a situation where being better at my job doesn’t get me more pay and getting a promotion means taking on shite I don’t want to do barring a rare job opening up.
As a result I work to live and have no qualms about it. I’m good enough not to get fired, not so good I can never take off, and I deal with certain annual processes no one else wants to do.
It’s kind of a purgatory to a degree, but I’m putting my time in until my kids are grown and don’t need to be supported, or at least as supported.

I'm 2/3s of the way home and I see light at the end of the tunnel, it looks good man!

Definitely understand that and it varies based on age and life situation for sure. I'm young with no kids. Therefore, my career is pretty important in my life and putting in extra effort now will pay huge dividends in the future. I see in my office how older people with kids and a shorter amount of time left in their career who have a different perspective. Definitely not a right or wrong answer, but I think an issue with my age group (mid-20s) is not putting in extra effort now. I'd rather work harder in my 20s while I'm single/no kids so when I'm in my 50s with kids I'm not having to work as hard and play catch-up.

Yes. I expect to always be the best in my department at everything

Some people live to work, some work to live. There’s a huge portion of the work sector that has a nice yearly salary that isn’t incentive-based. You do well, or you do just enough, pay is the same. In that regard, why care?
I care how well I do my job. The last thing I want the people I work with to think is that I do just enough during the work day.

This. I really enjoy being good at my job. I take pride in fixing shite right and not having to come back to it later. Build maintenance into it. Always looking to make something better or more efficient as well. It's satisfying for me to do something well.
My father was a master carpenter. He was more skilled and better at his job than I could ever be at mine. He made a fraction of what I do.
Honestly I'd feel like a shitbag if I didn't try to be the best at what I do and do the best job I can.
They pay me and pay me well.

Do you care how good you are at your job?
But I do feel that I'm good at my job, but it's equally as important to me for others(the important folks of course) to think I'm good at my job, regardless of how good I am or am not.

I have always worked for small companies where success was easily measurable. Not enough fat to do as little as I'd like.
Bad choice.
Bad choice.

We receive Individual Performance Factors which determines our bonuses, so YES, I care and go above and beyond each day.
