The history channel piece called hunting hitler laid out a damn strong case that he escaped to South America. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least that he killed a body double to cover his escape

When I was in high school, there was this really weird kid who had this theory that not only did Hitler survive the war and escape, but that he owned the Burlington Coat Factory and lived some Howard Hughes-like hermit existence somewhere in Baton Rouge. I shite you not. He had this damn theory thought out pretty well, and it was entertaining as hell to listen to.

Germans ended up there because Argentina was an extremely prosperous county at the time. They had good trade & relations with Germany and it was a huge tourism destination for Germans. Argentina continued these good relations with the Nazi party. Argentina is a very white nation, whiter than the US currently is.

Some Confederates ended up in Argentina also.

Two: It would have had to come as a surprise to him that Germany was losing the war. "Ach mein Gott! I'm losing zee war?!" He knew it was over after the defeat at Stalingrad.

Three: It would have had to come as a surprise to him that Russia had reached Berlin and was linking up to Allied forces to encircle it. "Ach mein Gott! Zee Russians are in Berlin?!"

He was so delusional that he thought Steiner's assault would clear up the problem. He was moving units that didn't exist on his map, and ordering the same unit to be in two places at once.

It is logical that he would commit suicide. Hitler saw himself as the central figure in a real life grand Wagnerian opera. He believed that his & Germany's fates were inextricably bound, he WAS Germany and vice versa. Both would either emerge from the war in glorious triumph or go down together in a grand blazing spectacle of ashes, ruin, and death. This was his Götterdämmerung. All or nothing, he wouldn't live without Germany and he believed that Germany should not exist without him. Like the possessive psycho ex-husband/boyfriend who doesn't want to live without his wife/girlfriend and doesn't want her to live without him.

He was never going to find the kind of power he’d had in Germany anywhere else. He was on top of the world for a time, where do you go from there? What was there for him to escape to? Hiding out in some South American backwater, fearing for his life? Going from being one of the most powerful people in the world to being a pathetic, powerless nobody? Being confronted every day with his own failures, knowing how close he'd come to having it all? The bitterness of it would have been too much to bear. As it was, he died as the Fuhrer of the Third Reich.

And all of the people who were in the bunker at the end said that he died there, including bodyguard Rochus Misch.

Hitler probably blamed everyone, everything else except himself.

He did.

The much parodied scene in Downfall is generally accurate and is attested in most accounts from Fuhrerbunker survivors.

Heard a conspiracy podcast stating that he escaped Germany. They went into all the documents of fbi investigating the possibility of Hitler being alive after WWII and how there was no evidence of death to this da

The classic “an investigation” is on going and thus any person target of the investigation is guilty. Think Trump & Russia “investigation”

And what was he going to do in Argentina? Settle down into a life of quiet retirement in obscurity, drinking tea and painting while watching the world move on without him? Living under someone else's thumb, hoping that they wouldn't sell him out if were to their advantage? Or was this burned out middle aged husk of a man with multiple serious health issues (possibly including Parkinson's Disease) going to start all over, building a new Reich from scratch, in a place to which he had no ties, among people he would have considered to be unworthy of him? Would you answer that, please?
