Soviets bought into it enough to keep an eye on it.

They also thought the walls of the pentagon were protecting the hot dog stand in the middle of the center courtyard. The area around the pentagon is heavily populated. They aren’t the only ones buying pizza

They have a whole food court. I’m not buying this. 7pm on a weekday is a popular time for anyone to order a pizza. 11pm on a Thursday isn’t crazy either for people who are starting their weekend early.

So some variables to consider:

- How good is the food in the Pentagon food court? I worked a place before that had a food court but the food wasn't great so we still ordered out.

- What are the hours of the food court? A lot of large businesses that have food courts don't have later hours. They usually close around 5-7 pm.

- Food court food may not "hold up" to sitting around for a bit. Pizza you can leave you, grab and go, etc. I doubt they're taking standard breaks during a period of anticipating a major military strike.

Absolutely plausible it's a thing.

Back before 9/11, there was no nighttime or weekend food service at the Pentagon. After 9/11, there was limited 24/7 service.

I'm not sure if there is 24/7 service any more. This is the primary driver for the pizza deliveries.

We know. Soviet spies camped outside the Pentagon enjoy a good pizza also.

It's nothing new. There have been stories about this at least since the early 90s.

I know a lot of larger companies that stopped 24/7 food court service during COVID as well (went the same way as a lot of buffets).

I'd be curious about this too. Or if they just have a smaller, limited option. Some tech places have a "self-service" cafe after hours but it's limited in options.

Already covered that in the OP

quote:

The tradition is not new. It actually dates back to the Cold War, when Soviet intelligence coined the term “Pizzint”—short for “pizza intelligence”—as they monitored American delivery patterns for signs of strategic activity. Similar surges were reportedly observed before the 1989 U.S. invasion of Panama, when local pizza orders suddenly doubled.

A Domino’s franchise owner in Washington once noted a significant rise in CIA orders the night before Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. And even during domestic political drama, such as the 1998 impeachment hearings of President Bill Clinton, pizza delivery spikes were observed. Former CNN Pentagon correspondent Wolf Blitzer once joked in 1990, “The bottom line for journalists: always keep an eye on the pizzas.”

Dominos being high and the bar being low is the classic indicator that something is indeed afoot at the Pentagon.

Closet homos eating pizza and not eating cocks is the indicator that shite is popping off halfway around the world....

Now imagine the founders of this country reading that sentence.

Seriously doubt it's open 24/7 and I'm sure it's easier to order pizza in bulk and not have people getting up to go get food in the cafeteria during military escalation where they need to be dialed in.

I am curious how they get the data.

It's called OSINT (open-source intelligence) and, hopefully, there will be a threat/vulnerability report issued and mitigation measures implemented

It's silly to be so transparent

So some variables to consider:

One you missed is AlextheBodacious has obviously never been looking for food after 5, maybe 6pm at the Pentagon. It is analogous to a hospital, while they are both technically open 24/7 most of the workers and visitors work or visit in the 9-5 slot and just like a hospital most of the food service shuts down by 5 or so.

I miss the old hotdog stand in the center courtyard. It was supposed to be the aiming point for a few of the Soviet ballistic missiles. It is some kind of sandwich shop now.

Are their patterns in the toppings as specific leading indicators?

Pepperoni frequency connected to branch of service? US enemies, get your air defenses ready, the pentagon just ordered surge of pepperoni.

it is similar, but this is in a class unto itself. the federal government using waffle house to gauge disaster impact is on the one hand hilarious, yet insanely practical

this is more like seeing a lightning strike and knowing something worse is coming
