Do you ask for copies for medical images like XRays, MRI scans, etc?

I keep every scrap of paper every time i bring my vehicle into a mechanic and a spreadsheet with all my service records.
but i just let the medical industry 'hold onto that' for me and its like i asked them to open ft knox when i request my own copy of something like the CT scan i had done a couple weeks back to check for kidney stones.
i'm paying for this shite and this is my health, not an oil change yet i have more detailed records from my mechanic. why am i not entitled to a copy of everything they do by default? anyone else feel this way?

All of my records are available to me on the patient portal either online or through the app. It’s 2020, gramps.

I have copies of x rays of my knee with screws in it & also a vhs tape of the scope of knee

Yes. They’ll give copies of your X-Rays to you on a DVD.

Not the images themselves but I always ask for a copy of the radiology report directly from the reviewing doctor.

you can get a copy right there on the spot if you ask....then you are free to give it to whatever doctor you want to have him/her read it for you

If you’re asking a hospital, go directly to their medical records department and it’s very straight forward. If you’re asking a small private practice doctor on an outdated system, likely someone has to go dig through records all afternoon to find your stuff. More context could help

Yes, and I also pay for medical services with money, filing claim with my insurer if I want to. Really upsets them.
