Kinda crazy to say this but a lot of people who seem to not have a lot of money are usually getting stuff Uber or DoorDash to them. I just wonder how they make ends meet, or is the govt just giving them $ hand over fist?

I have dash pass through my chase card, gets me discounts and 5$ free a month. I don’t do delivery anymore after our food got hot boxed by weed. I just use it now for to go order and go pick it up

I get DashPass with one of my credit cards, and the extra $5 or so on top is easily worth my not having to leave my house when I don't feel like it. I completely understand why some people object, but it's a nice quality of life increase for not much money for me, relatively speaking.

the food always arrived cold.
I’ve done it maybe 5 times in my life and this was never the case. With no tip.

Also, some of my favorite things to order are either cold to start off with (sushi, bagel and lox, etc) or are extremely easy to heat up (ramen, pho, etc, where the broth is kept separate).
Other than the cost, I feel like people's biggest issue is that they keep asking food delivery to be something it isn't. There's a reason why pizza has been delivered forever and other things haven't.

I've used it several times and never had an issue. It's usually on Sat or Sun evenings when my wife is working and I'm a few bourbons deep. I tip very generously for my laziness and that's probably why my food always arrives without issues.

They drive in 2s now? Looks like ghetto trash. But no, never use them.

I use it all the time at work. The cost of a delivery driver's time is far less than mine. At home my wife will use it because she values her downtime, I will usually offer to go get it but don't argue if she would rather be spending time with me. We also use it when we have had a drink or two.

Oh hell to the no. As I explained on the eating in restaurants thread, my family knows we don't waste money on fast food, eating out, etc. BUT, I did receive about $150 Doordash for a work milestone a year ago and my boys quickly rolled through that via pickup at Panda Express.
Besides, I live 10-12 mins away from any delivering restaurant out here in the boonies...the food would be cold by the time it got here.

I am always getting emails offering 40% off my order. About once a month we order and it shows up hot with a sealed bag. I think these companies business model is to take a loss for a couple years, hoping you’ll get dependent on the service. The thing is, there is no way I’m using their service unless they heavily subsidize it. Ain’t no way they’re making a cent off of us at this point

I find it takes forever to get food. So I usually don’t.

I get between $50-$75 of Uber credit a month so I usually do it 1x per month to use it

We have a Don’s ten minutes away and order their take out service once a week and pickup ourselves. We've narrowed the food order down to items that can easily and minimally be reheated at home while maintaining the in restaurant quality of the order. It works well for us.
I don’t understand how these services can deliver hot food to your door like pizza, which is in a form factor that makes it easy in a square, insulated box. Even then I’ll inevitably have to warm it in a hot oven for 5 minutes or so. Cold items like salads are easier, a few minutes in the fridge or quickly in the freezer.
I don’t trust the delivery services with respect to properly handling hot food spoilage and don’t use them. I’ll get my food poisoning some other way.

I have DashPass through a credit credit. Some restaurants have a big markup but others do not.
I value my time and it reduces the hassle meaningfully.

Yes, I have DashPass and use it at least 3 times or more per week. My 7.99/mo charge easily pays for itself with No delivery fees, the only extra charge is the tip, which I would leave a tip if I picked up anyway
This is like women logic of because they bought something on sale they made money.

You people.
I've had food poisoning in Mexico, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and London. All admittedly overseas except for once in Nola. It's not a pleasant experience. Guess I'm susceptible under some circumstances.
Love raw oysters and used to eat at Acme on Iberville in the Quarter once a week. Delicious and can't be beat anywhere in the world.
So, you do you and I'll do me, no problem on my side.

I remember talking to one of these app delivery drivers who was telling me he can't believe how many people are getting food delivered nowadays.
I don't know, for me, I always felt like if I have two legs and a car, there's no reason to door dash/uber eats anything. Spending 10-20 minutes picking it up myself saves like 10 bucks. And I receive the food much quicker than if someone else picked it up for me.
