When you factor in tip, it's probably a 50% markup on already expensive restaurant food.

I know several of the "inflation is killing me" types that order lunch through one of those services twice per week

There was some run on DoorDash about a week ago, where everybody in the hood was using promo codes and not tipping anything
well, that certainly explains the odd email I received from DoorDash a few days ago:

PREFER TO
OPT OUT OF FATHER’S DAY COMMS?

“As Father's Day approaches, we understand if you'd rather not receive reminders and promotions about the holiday. Just let us know — we'll take care of the rest.
P.S. If you opt out, you will no longer be able to redeem any promotions related to Father's Day, but you'll still receive order updates and other offers”

lmao

Never have. I don’t know that anyone in our area even does it, even though we have plenty of fast food and restaurants.

I get dashpass and a monthly credit with doordash because of CC. We use doordash almost every Friday. Plastic bags are always tied tightly and paper bags are always stapled.

Never have. I get pizza delivered by the pizza place employee. Don't need some dirty unvetted junkie around my food.

Even if I wanted to, it is not possible. The nearest town is over 30 minutes away.
That's where I'm at. Maybe closer to 15 minutes away from the closest restaurant, but still too far for any kind of delivery. They won't even bring pizza out here. Anyway, I've used DoorDash, WaitR, and GrubHub for pickup only. Got into the habit of doing it during Covid just for the convenience of using an online tool. Realized I could save $10 or more every order by just calling the restaurant, and never went back.

Sounds like you’re not familiar with the typical kitchen employee. Lotta drugs in the kitchen where they prepare the grub

Yeah, a lot of them are on parole, but if you order Door Dash now you've doubled your chances.

No. It’s not worth it and you have scholars like this dude handling your food

Last time I used it was for work and it made a $13 canes meal $27.

Someone getting in their own car and burning their own gas to drive to a restaurant to pick up your food (often having to wait a bit, if not a while) and bring it to your door is a pretty big service. It's a lot more than a waiter or waitress does for someone in a restaurant.

I can certainly understand why it's expensive.

Nah. I have actually never done that. Just easier (and cheaper) to eat something at home or pick it up yourself

There is some humor in the sign above being "100% on time all the time" given the reason for the disturbance.

AmEx credits for UberEats (along with good Uber promos) but I basically never have it delivered. When I do it's because Uber will give a 20-40% promo on deliveries which takes care of the cost of the tip.

Never quite saw the logic in sitting at home and waiting for someone else to bring your food to you. To top that, it quite literally doubles the cost of the food. I don’t know why anyone would do that aside from some special circumstances.
