oh man, waiters would have to start making an honest living as if they worked at a shoe store or coffee shop.

Secondly, when a waiter is making a flat $15 an hour, the service, from my experience, has been sub par.
exactly. it's just the way the world works. If you are promised something, you will slack. If you aren't promised something, you have to work a little harder to get what you want.

If the server isn't that big of a deal, why is it the biggest complaint of a meal?

What else COULD a patron bitch about?

The steak gave me a mean look? The salad called me a racist name? The fork tried to gouge my eye out? The napkin was too white?

Patrons bitch about the server because he/she is the only interaction they have during their meal.

I'm not surprised you're in the service industry, bluntskull.

The IRS used to basically accept 8% of sales as the tip when it was undocumented but they've wised up because they know waiters make significantly more than that. There is no acceptable amount or rate anymore, but the IRS is more interested when numbers seem way off. A waiter should be prudent about what they earn and keep documentation in case of an audit.

This sounds like it could be a wating/tipping thunderdome of sorts.

Ryan could wait on you to his best and you could start at '0' and go up to 15% to see who wins.

Did you get to complain to management? Sounds like you told the waitress where to shove it. You should've gotten your meal comped, if your experience was that shitty.

No shite. Your assumption though is that it would be way more than what we currently pay when you factor in the cost of the food plus the tips we pay.

It's been proven time and time again that restaurants that pay a reasonable wage and eliminate tipping don't cost substantially more to the consumer.

Waiters are the ones that don't want this system, which is another example of the "woe is me" attitude of servers being bullshite.

How does this^^ answer the question I asked above?

And if you really think serving tables is as easy as selling shoes and coffee, I pity you.

It's easier. The soccer mini-van mother is a bitch to deal with whilst ordering her latte.

It's really fricking easy, man. Some really dumb, lazy people are not only servers, but successful ones.

The penultimate of most servers is being promoted to behind the bar. 'Now, I just get to serve drinks and boss the servers around.'

Career aspirations.

Just keep it simple and double the tax.

If that .50-.75 cents difference is gonna make or break you, you probably shouldn't be eating out.
