The increase in mental illness is caused by lack of faith. No prayer in schools, no 10 commandments at courthouses, etc

But my post was about mental illness, which is certainly up.

Correct

And studies have shown that to be a result of the social media world that we live in, at least among teens

As for adults a couple decades of perpetual war probably doesn't help

Has nothing to do with God in schools

are you talking about Iraq and Afghanistan? They daily lives of like 99% of the people in this country haven’t been affected in the slightest by war.

I think our understanding and ability to diagnose are up, which makes it appear mental illness is up. I’m not sure if mental illness is actually more prevalent now than before.

But to be clear, I don’t know.

Perhaps adults are also victims of the social media that dominates our lives

But it has nothing to do with God in schools

Teen suicides have been steadily on the rise since 2010, the point at which you could argue social media hit critical mass

I remember when I was a kid and everyone became cannibals shortly after Pac-Man was released.

The reason so many kids have mental illness these days is because nobody beats their kid they just give them a participation trophy and ritalin

Nope. Turns out blood and brain matter got into the controller.

This thread is classic OT “I didn’t see it going that direction.” Never thought the religious debate would result from this. And what’s with the downvotes? Bunch of video game Nancys up in this place. The title was obviously sarcasm.

Video games themselves don't cause violence, but the violence in video games make real violence easier for the kids addicted to them.
I bet Japan, China, Vietnam, and South Korea are full of violent, addicted video gamers then

I agree, from personal experience. When I was a young lad, "Cliff Hanger" inspired me to develop elaborate schemes to drop boulders on people.

No, if playing a video game pushes you over the edge to kill someone you were f**kin nuts to start off with.

I still haven't killed my Mother-n-Law and I've played some pretty violent games from COD to action RPG's.

ETA: WAFB article provides more details

But also in the article it mentions the mom, only the mom, tending to a bunch of other kids. If I was a betting man, I would say there is no father involved, at best different boyfriends but that doesn't have the same effect. Children growing up in a fatherless household are way more likely to commit acts of violence not know how to express anger, etc. the list goes on and on.
