Perfect example of idiots not knowing how they work. You don't let people in. You keep going. They slip in where they can.

I think this pretty much sums up most of our traffic issues. People hear “defensive driving” and think that it means to hold your spot.

Makes me crazy when people treat driving like it's some sort of competition.

If used as they're intended, then yes. If some dumbass doesn't know how to properly use them, then they're a wreck waiting to happen.

Not reading this whole thread, but just came to say the most obvious indicator of someone who doesn't understand how roundabouts work is anyone that puts a turn signal on when approaching/entering. Second most obvious is the jack arse who yields to traffic entering the roundabout while they're inside the roundabout.

When I went to Grand Cayman they have double lane roundabouts on the main roads. And they drive on the left side. I had to concentrate pretty hard the first day not to screw that up. I slid into a couple busy ones wincing my eyes and cringing up hoping somebody didn’t tbone me. LOL

Lest we forget the ones that used to be at either end of the Huey P Long bridge in NOLA.

That was pretty much my experience driving in England for the first time. I get there in the morning all bleary-eyed after an overnight flight, pick up my rental car and the first thing I see coming out of the car park is a roundabout. My dad gave me some advice before I left: when you enter a roundabout turn left and when you exit the roundabout turn left again. That advice got me through the first day. After that I was a pro. But I still kept trying to get into the wrong side of the car for about a week.

Studies have shown that roundabouts are safer than traditional stop sign or signal-controlled intersections. Roundabouts reduced injury crashes by 75 percent at intersections where stop signs or signals were previously used for traffic control, according to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Studies by the IIHS and Federal Highway Administration have shown that roundabouts typically achieve: A 37 percent reduction in overall collisions A 75 percent reduction in injury collisions A 90 percent reduction in fatality collisions A 40 percent reduction in pedestrian collisions

Plus personal experience: they help.

My favorite roundabout is the Airline/Causeway intersection in Metairie. Airline underpasses train tracks. The roundabout is above the tracks. Then, this is an overpass for Causeway. It’s a 4-level intersection of major roads and a train that was created perfect a million years ago.

Drives me nuts every day, the one by UHigh. People think they are being nice by letting people in, they are just screwing it up for everyone else. Shocker that people don’t know how to drive in Louisiana. Also love the ones who speed through school zones. Oblivious to the flashing lights saying “school zone”

Yes they work. Way better than stop signs. I'm guessing less accidents as well.

There was an episode on discovery channel or whatever with the dude with glasses and beret where they did this vs 4 way stop. The roundabout kicked the 4 way stops arse in efficiency
