Do restaurant still close for essence fest?

Was having a conversation with a buddy and the year restaurants received a ton backlash for closing came up. Is this still a thing? Also, anyone in the service industry or use to be in the industry in Nola think it’s justified?

Walk Ons wanted to close so bad that year they tore the floor out of the restaurant and busted a hole in the sewer line beneath their building.

Not really. Some places do close for the 4th of July though.

It takes a little money to attend Essence. Not saying the attendees and their money are easily parted, but this crowd is generally much, much better than the Classic.

Last year everything was closed so we had to stay in and bar b cue in da hotel bathtub

I never felt Essence fest crowd was bad.
Basically, a bunch of HBCU educated folks who think they are more sophisticated than they are.
Otherwise harmless. Tip ok, act like normal people.
Bayou Classic on the other hand. Just absolute trash.

Do they close for Essence? Ive been in New Orleans during Essence festival a few times and I never saw anything closed. Essence usually brings in a higher class of people.
