Do political people love being miserable?

You know the type. It's Obama's fault if the saints dont win. Their Facebook feeds are full of reposted fake news stories. It's like self loathing in politics secretly gets these peoples' rocks off. I mean just go to the Poli board for 5 minutes. I've never seen a bigger gathering of collective bitching in my life.

For the average person, politics can be equated to sports, television shows, movies and other forms popular culture. Generally, not much more than a distraction from everyday life.

Except that it affects the lives of everyone.

Generally, only tangentially.

While I hate the nonsensical and oftentimes childish bitching that goes on, I do tend to think that those who are acutely aware of the political are, as a result, miserable in some sense (maybe not overall, but a feeling of disgust or despair when thinking about the picture). Or maybe that's just me.

My definition of misery is constantly having people all up in my shite, and that's a politicians life. So if I was a politician, I'd have to love being miserable.

Hemp, does your cynicism in respect of politics ever lead you to an almost illuminating sense of well-being? Kind of a "I can't do anything about it anyway, so I am now free to feel content"?

Sort of. But it also compels me to try to think in predictive or adaptive ways, ie if things are going to be fricked in X manner, I'll try to mitigate impact by doing Y.

Makes a bitching thread about other people bitching.

Honky Lips!! My man.. Yeah, bruh.. I think there are people in this world who are programed to be happy only when they are unhappy and miserable, I try to avoid them.

Politics is Hollywood for ugly people.

People have an inherent desire to be part of a tribe, and politics is the outlet for that.
And people with no real hobbies or passions tend to make politics and watching cable news their passion.

Personally Honky Lips, I care more about if the teams I bet on this weekend cover more than I care about the presidential election.

Right? I have some out of town family we visit every year. So one night after dinner, the girls asked to go to Hobby Lobby. We drop them off and wait in the parking lot. The conversation in the car goes like this:
Me: man, I think my wife loves Hobby Lobby way to much, lol.
Him (dead serious): well not for much longer. Obama's forcing these birth control pills on Hobby Lobby and they're probably gonna end up shutting all the stores down.
Really?
