People who have the fear of failure are taking life too serious.

I can’t figure out if I’m taking life too seriously or not seriously enough on a daily/weekly basis.

Depending on the goal, this is the middle. The other end I think you’re reaching for is the 24/7 grinder that lets nothing stop them from reaching their goals, damn relationships and friendships and stability.

That’s a good point. For me, I don’t set goals that are harmful to other parts of my life. That’s the test in my book.

I’ll only grind for a season and I make sure I’m not burning everything else to the ground.

I think there's definitely a balance.

Some people are serious people. That's okay. Perhaps their sense of humor isn't yours. That's okay too.

Way too often I see guys in particular who are different butt heads because they're way of being doesn't mesh. Serious guy will think the laid back guy is too much of a joker. The joker will think the serious guy has a stick up his arse. The truth is both people are just being themselves and don't get along.

I know that I've been in a situation where a person wanted all the attention on them and I didn't find them particularly funny or interesting. The person that was used to people laughing and joking with them would often tell me that I was too serious and that I needed to lighten up. The truth of the matter was that I just didn't like them and thought they were full of shite.

I think situations like that can happen as well. I think people who "take life too seriously" can sometimes be a perfectly functioning person who has decided that they have boundaries and only certain people get that side of them.

It’s important to give a shite. But it’s the people who are prepared to die on every little hill they come across. I experience this every day and it’s maddening.

i think here in America its two extremes. most people take life too seriously and dont take time to enjoy the ride. Then a large number of people who are frick ups and dont take life seriously at all and expect everyone to take care of them.

quite few other countries have it better figured out than we do. that comes with its own costs though.

Yes, to the craziest degree…

Too many people these days feel their self-importance connected to being animated by something, so they get emotional about the easiest things to get emotional about…religion, politics, their fur-baby, whatever it is. They can’t disconnect from this over reliance on an external influence, because then they wouldn’t have anything…vicious cycle.

More people need to experience world culture and get out of their comfort zone. It’s humbling to realize you aren’t actually living the “best” world experience you thought you were based on your parents telling you what religion or politics you “ARE”.

Yeah, they do unfortunately.

Also, people take this message board and what's said on it way too seriously.

Hell yeah they do. I stay goofy, it's much more fun that way.

One of my interns was shocked when I told him how old I am. He thought I was 25 or so. "you don't act old"

Have you seen our average citizen? Most Americans don’t take life seriously AT ALL. We have a bunch of 30+ year old children out there obsessed with drugs, celebrities, video games and sports. 1/3 of our citizens can’t even be bothered to vote.

It’s nothing new. Every generation has this. I won’t even believe anything people try to argue otherwise.

I stay stressed out and I worry about everything but worrying actually works!
I'm living proof. 99% of what I worried about never actually happened.

I’m trying to leave the next generation of my family better off than my own. The last couple of generations of my family seem to have had this goal, and I think it’s noble. Feels like a responsibility to carry it on.

Correct.

We shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously, life generally has to be taken in a serious way or it will eat you up.

I just want people to take responsibility for their kids. I don’t care what you do for a living.
