I don’t know why anyone would tell someone they don’t know “happy mother’s day”. I get told it every year, and it’s by no means insulting but just an odd thing to assume about someone my age.

For someone struggling to have kids...being told Happy Mother's Day by someone would feel like the person is just being a complete a-hole. It would feel like a slap in the face.

I dread Mother's Day now.

As for the OP...it's his coworker...so I'm assuming he knows she has kids?

So sad. One guy left and his family won't talk to him at all. Sounded eerily just like the experiences former Scientology members have when they leave.

You have former JW people basically begging their families on camera to see them, telling them how much they love them.

So yeah...JW is def a horrible cult. Where is the hope in a religion like that?

A former co worker and friend of mine is a JW and has told me some about it. How they think we worship the flag and they won't say the pledge and they can't get a blood transfusion. I find it weird as hell but I don't judge, he is a real good dude. He tells me one day he and his GF had been kicked out of the church because the leaders found out they were having premarital sex. They were kicked out for like 6 months. They could still attend but had to sit in the back and couldn't talk to anyone and other JW weren't allowed to speak to them in or out of the church. After 6 months they could go to the leaders asking to be allowed back in.

I don't think you should take it this way. People are just being kind and respectful and most likely wouldn't even know your situation. I pray things work out for you.

The whole blood transfusion thing makes me angry in regards to children. Adults...don't care...you want to let yourself die because of your misguided beliefs...be my guest.

They showed on that special some JW sermon at some JW convention where they praised a bunch of children who had died because the parents refused blood transfusions. Cheered as names and pictures were flashed on a screen.

We had a 4 year old child on our floor years ago that would have died if not for a blood transfusion. Doctors had tried other things..but it didn't work. Last hope was a blood transfusion. Mom was JW. She eventually agreed...but made us swear to not tell her parents(who were strict JW). If she would have refused the doctors would have gotten a court order to do the transfusion.

Agreed. No kids here, not in the cards, so I know those feels, but a happy mothers day is a wish for you to have a good day, mother or not.

People just don't think that is all. Just don't say anything. Assuming things always has a chance to go wrong.

And...you are not the one facing this...so please don't tell me how I am supposed to feel.

ETA: I do appreciate the kind words...just wanted to point out that while the intention is good...you can't expect people to feel a certain way.

JW's are indeed a cult. Their schtick is to come off one way but then get their hard core false doctrine worked in incrementally. Frog boiling basically. Now one can get a taste of their odd beliefs when something that is societally accepted as a general well wish like Happy Mother's Day or Merry Christmas sets them off.

Generally someone who is not pretty far gone and is functional in society will politely accept but at a max explain why they don't reciprocate the pleasantry...going off the rails really shows how deep rooted the mind control goes in that individual as it trumps an expected normal reaction to said well wish.

I wouldn’t care.

Just cause she is a JW, doesn’t change the fact that certain days exist

Could you at least give us the reason why it burned her arse? Just a little bit of context?

We have one of these. We get a gift at Christmas and she sells hers and keeps the money. We no longer have a Christmas/Holiday party because it isn’t inclusive for her so we have an employee appreciation party.

Don’t care, still get a party.

Asked the other one to sign a birthday card. He started explaining why he couldn’t. I just cut him off and told him no explanation needed, a simple no thanks is all I need.

Is there a reason they don’t like mother/Father’s Day? Seems odd

They don't celebrate most holidays. Not even their own birthday.

Pretty sure Leah Remini was a Scientologist that left, not a JW

Yeah she is...but she did an entire episode devoted to JWs. Let them talk about how bad it is for former JWs when they leave their cultish religion.

Totally agree, everyone is entitled to feel the way they feel, and should be able to express those feelings without judgment.

But this is the internet, and the OT, so put on a suit of armor.
