This is an amazing field and moving forward rapidly.
These are the tools that will help pts live longer, and withstand the treatment regimen.
Tell her "thanks".

I worked with one with a PHD from Southern. Glad he left. Nice guy but he was terrible.

Knew a guy with a PHD named Stephen. Complete arse hat about it. A lady was taking his info down at a conference and she asked "is it spelled with a v or a ph" and he responded "it's actually PHD". I wanted slam his stupid face into the table.
I would have spelled his name Stephden from then until eternity.

It's pretty obvious that most of you don't feel comfortable around highly educated people, or don't know many highly educated people. A PHD neither makes somebody a better person, or a lesser person.
I don't have a PHD, but I work around 10-12 PHDs - electrical engineering & mechanical engineering. My wife has her PHD, as well. I enjoy being around them, not because they have PHDs, but because they are good people.

Not all PHDs are created equal.

There is a large contingent of “I don’t need no book lernin” on this board. It’s kind of sad.

Mine was honorary. I consider myself pretty normal.

I have no degree. I have worked around/woth plenty of PHDs at 2 different national laboratories. I currently live in Los Alamos, where nearly 18% of the town has a PHD.
Some are weird. Some are foreign. Some are liberal. Some are smart. Some are competent. Most probably weren't the popular kids in high school. I seem to get along with them at a higher % than the rest of the population, but the odds of us being close friends is probably not very strong.
Some of them will hold back those like me that lack formal education. Others look for talent and don't seem to place their own self-worth or the value of others in the degrees.

Ppl that like being in a cushy environment and (in some cases) like having a tenured $400k a year position.
They can make physician money and not having to do much.

Online PHD's. Just because someone gets a PHd doesnt mean they should be called Dr. Never sat right with me.
I know a psych nurse practitioner who got her PHD in nursing through Southern University. She now signs everything Dr. and expects everyone to refer to her as Doctor.

Most in my family have them. My father worked, went to night school, raised a family and wrote his dissertation at night till 2-3 am so he could spend time with my sister and me before bed. He worked for the state and private. He wanted to make a difference in his client lives. (Intellectual disability). He’s a normal guy. So to answer your question… Yes.

Only people in education - get paid more. Most pay college the money and get the diploma.

I have a JD that got a horrible ROI.
I'm three hours away from a master's in substance abuse counseling. I never finished my internship and never will.
Writing is keeping the lights on and the dogs fed. Hopefully that continues

I have a ton of respect for people who get a PhD in the hard sciences in the STEM fields. My father is one of them.
