Can probably get by with some sort of tablet and keyboard.
Isn't your kid on scholarship? Sun Belt Billy won't even give them laptops?

Scholarship doesn’t come with a computer I don’t think. Family is asking about graduation gifts…
The iPad was fine for high school.

Yes, your child will need a computer and probably a cell phone

Yes to laptop, no to iPad. A Surface would be a better tablet. They can hook it up to a bigger monitor and keyboard in their rooms and take it to classes with them.
As far as a laptop, something equivalent to what they were using in high school is fine for Adobe, word processing, accessing school sites, etc.
If they are doing engineering or architecture, they may need a more high powered computer for running the programs that are required.

Depends on the area of study. My son is studying accounting and needed a laptop to run the software the school requires. My daughter graduated with a degree in Applied Psychology and was fine with an ipad and keyboard however she did say some of the data analysis was tough to do.
Each department should have it's own requirements.

Surface > iPad unless you already own the iPad

Simmer down, he’ll be lucky to pass one of those curriculums that have ‘science’ in the name.

Id get windows based.... ipad is great but might not work with the different homework websites students have to use (all with their own subscription fees).

Definitely depends on major. Laptop was very handy in my engineering degree due to software needed. Allowed to work on projects unless I wanted to be at the computer lap basically 24/7 to work on them.

Is PC or Apple a better choice for college? Or wait and see what is popular in your circle / major and go from there? I figure some of it may be software driven. Questions I have.
