Some, I think, truly just like being around people, but some seem to need everyone to like them. I never got that. There's only a handful of people who's opinion matter to me. I find small talk for the sake of small talk exhausting.

Some just don't care for the general public and the pointless small talk and pleasantries.

“On the subway today, a man came up to me to start a conversation. He made small talk, a lonely man talking about the weather and other things. I tried to be pleasant and accommodating, but my head hurt from his banality. I almost didn't notice it had happened, but I suddenly threw up all over him. He was not pleased, and I couldn't stop laughing.”

The difference between you and I is I am aware enough to know that is annoying. You are not an extrovert, you are a midwit.

I’m confident that I don’t like dealing with people, especially people who run up to me at a gas station and immediately tell me about what they are lifting and all about their excellent cardio. GTFO

I don't want to have full conversations with people nor pry. But in the South, I feel like if you can't/don't do pleasantries and exchange a friendly question or two with strangers you're being rude. Like:

"Morning how are ya'll?" "In town for the _____?" "Definitely, us too. Didn't think it'd be this cold." "I know right, have a good one."

And on top of all that, I do think it makes life a little more pleasant where people engage like that. I'm sure it annoys some people but if you live here I feel like you're kind of availing yourself of that culture.

Here. Generally I’m a huge extrovert but sometimes I just don’t feel like it or care.

I think it makes life a little more annoying and unpleasant.

Just let me be and think I'm an a-hole. I'm fine with that.

If you're a stranger and you don't have something substantial for me, I'll say hello back to you. I'm not going to run my mouth to make you more comfortable.

I didn't read all the comments, but here's a serious question - what in the hell is "BJJ"? Something to do with blow jobs?

While introverts are a minority group in society, they form the majority of gifted people. Moreover, it appears that introversion increases with intelligence so that more than 75 percent of people with an IQ above 160 are introverted (Sword, 2002).

Someone once told me that people who talk all the time, never really say anything. That always stuck with me. I’m a huge introvert, to the point that it has probably hurt my career because I never partake in any conversation at work that doesn’t directly deal with my job. I would bet that the majority of this board are introverts. This is the perfect escape for an introvert to pick and choose topics that interest them and discuss. Extroverts crave that face to face interaction.

Ok yeh. If it was just that and only that. That’s a pleasantry. Just don’t carry it further because then it borders on small talk. And that’s exhausting.

Calls someone a midwit. Uses incorrect grammar.

Do introverts just lack confidence?

Not all of us are lacking in confidence. Some of us just have a guilty conscience because we have been getting away with some serious shite for so long that we're certain it's about to catch up to us. So, we make a general practice of avoiding parties, and gatherings in excess of four or five people.

Some avoid others because they lack confidence and dont want people judging them.

Some of us dont seek out others and have nothing to prove.

You sound like you have something to prove.
