If you are an alcoholic you are not drinking just to cut that edge after a hot day at work. I am going to call bullshite on this whole thing because if you really think you were drinking just to take the edge off, you wouldn't be going to AA. That, or you are going to AA for some reason, but you are not an alcoholic.
Have you known a real alcoholic? Of course you could be a functioning alcoholic, but I doubt that because they can go through a day's work, but when they don't have something to do to occupy their time, they have a drink in their hand and it's more than taking the edge off.
And if you were an true alcoholic, you would likely not be able to make the whole day without having a drink.

If you want to drink no one is stopping you.
AA helps some people that need help stopping and want to quit.

If you’ve been through AA twice, alcohol being legal or not isnt the issue. The issue is do YOU want to quit? Not whether it’s legal or if it’s ok for other people to take the edge off.

If you keep drinking too much, it’ll kill you. Your belly will start hurting and swelling. Then it’ll either get infected and you’ll die quickly, or you’ll get progressively more altered mentally and drift off to a coma.

It's purpose is to show an alcoholic that he and alcohol can never be friends. It's a support group for those people who understand this and want to keep alcohol from destroying their lives.

I’ve been an enabler for an alcoholic in the past. It wasted years of his life, and he’s the brightest guy that I’ve ever known. He’s my husband. It makes me sad to see this post.

You don't go "through" AA. It's a program that never ends.
Read Russel Brand's 'Addiction'.
Probably the best 12 step book out there. And it's designed to be used for any addiction one may have.
