What kids were running around with cell phones in 19 fricking 98?

I didn't get one until 2003...when I was 16. All it was for was playing snake and telling my parents I wasn't dead.

I agree that the OP is trying to say all Millennials are the same which is absolutely not true. There are huge differences in Millennials, especially older and younger Millennials.

And that's a point I want to bring up, I get mad every time those of us 35 to 40 are labeled as Millennials. I'm sorry but I'm 36 and I have nothing in common with a kid born in the 90s and yet we're considered part of the same generation?

If you were born in the 80s (the first half of the Millennial generation) you were part of the last group that got to grow up kind of in an older style. We still played outside, knocked on neighbors doors to see if our friends could play, would be gone for hours and no one cared. Neighbors knew each other and looked out for each others kids. I remember life without the internet, without social media, heck even without a computer. I remember my dad getting our first computer in 1995, it was incredible (of course now we would laugh at it). I went through most of high school without a cell phone, only getting a cell phone the last half of my senior year in 2002.

If you were born in the 90s you don't remember a life without computers. You were the first kids that grew up with technology. Even by the time they were kids parents were more scared about kids being unsupervised.

Simply put, those of us born in the 80s remember life without technology, people born in the 90s do not remember life without technology. Those of us born in the 80s have more in common with GenX than with younger Millennials.

I like to use the Xennial term myself. Xennials should be 1980-1989 and Millennials should be 1990-1999. And with technology increasing at a faster and faster pace current generation should probably be around 5 years long, at most 10.

Does anyone else agree with this assessment?

Say what you want, it's true though. My childhood was far more like my older sister, who is a Gen Xer. In fact I'm the baby of my family, I have one cousin who was born a year later than me in 84 but my sister and older cousins were all Gen Xers.

I can't identify being in the same generation as a kid who has never known life without technology. And for most Millennials born in 94, 95, 96 they have never known life without technology. Heck most of them probably never even had a flip phone.

Generations need to be no longer than 10 years now. The idea of generations being 15 - 20 years is laughable in today's society.
