My Dad raised me on Waylon, Merle and Hank Jr as far as country music. Rock, everything from the Rolling Stones, Beetles, Lzep, Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, and many other greats. Def. glad he did. Today's bro Country music sucks donkey dick.

I'm glad mine prefer things like Benson Biome and K-pop to modern rap-crap.

Much more tolerable to the ear and much less destructive to the soul

But due to dance, my 11 year old daughter also knows all the words to Get Low.

…… unedited?

Your 11 year old walks around signing this:

'Til all skeet-skeet, motherf*ker
'Til all skeet-skeet, ***damn

Shawty crunk, so fresh, so clean
Can she f*ck? That question been harassing me
In the mind, this bitch is fine
I done came to the club 'bout 50-11 times
Now can I play with your panty line?
The club owner said I need to calm down
Security guard's gonna sweat me now
Ni*** drunker than a motherf*cker, threaten me now

She getting crunk in the club, I mean she work it
And then I like to see the females twerking
Taking her clothes off, buckey naked
ATL, ho, don't disrespect it
A-pop your pussy like this
Cause Ying Yang Twins in this b-i-itch
Lil Jon and the East Side Boys with me
And we all like to see arse and titties
Now bring your arse over here, ho
And let me see you get low if you want this thug
Now take it to the floor (To the floor)
And if your arse wanna act, you can keep your arse where you're at

When my kids were little I got my old stereo system out and hooked it up, broke out my ZZTop album and put LaGrange on and cranked it up. The kids seemed confused and didn’t know how to react, I guess they weren’t impressed. I loved it though.

frick no. I'm the one telling them how gay some of their music is but they do listen and know good music because I made them and would routinely quiz them. 2 out of the 3 are musicians however the other one has a banjo he just didn't get into.

You fricked up.

I raised my daughter on the Beatles the Grateful Dead and little feat. She’s well rounded as far as her peers go

At the age of three my daughter knew the difference between Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. She knew every word to “Holy Wars.” At the age of 9 her favorite singers/bands are Dolly Parton, the Velvet Underground, Beach Boys, They Might Be Giants, and Sam Cooke.

She plays piano, violin, and drums, not because she’s been forced but because she wants to. My wife and I have been intentional about what she hears and she’s gotten a pretty wide variety of music exposed to her. The one thing we have shielded her from is “modern” country.

My daughter is 6. If I’m listening to something folkie or country she will say “daddy play something jammie.” Take my phone and put on panic in the streets. We always start at the beginning.

My dad doesn't know or care anything about music. He taught me gardening, hunting, and how to drive a tractor

I’ve said to them I think the song writing today is weak …and it is.

However, anything I say isn’t going to change their opinion. They don’t care. Music simply isn’t important to their generation like it was to Gen X and the Boomers.

My dad was born in 1931. His music was big bands playing swing music. He listened to Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. He played the trombone in his high school band in Crossett, AR . They used to get with some of the Bastrop and Monroe high school band members and play together at Tech and ULM.

I bought a Benny Goodman CD and keep it in their Highlander, along with a best of John Williams, best of Johnny Cash, two Colter Wall albums, best of Ray Charles, best of Ennio Morricone, and the Amadeus soundtrack. That way there's stuff we all like when I drive them somewhere. That CD case has all of the Little Feat albums and Sargent Peppers in it too.

Both my kids listen to classic rock and 80s rock/pop (son more than daughter). They grew up with 80s on 8, Classic Rewind, or my CDs in the car. I would also try to listen to their "modern" music, so of which was/is tolerable. Thankfully, neither of them have any interest in current hip hop (although, they do like some of the old school stuff)

Was not at all as described above. I did share a variety of music with my son and he chose some which I also like. Then he started playing guitar.
My daughter just decided not to listen to me, but made her own choices - a few of which we share.

But not sharing good music with children would be an odd choice.

My kids are grown now but when they were young they were exposed to many types of music. I grew up in the 60's and 70's with great rock music and old school Motown and Country.
My daughter is strictly into country while my son listens to Swamp Pop, Country, and Motown. Neither of them like rap and modern "rock".

Uh, not really. I usually play what I normally play in the car and my daughter says nothing. Somewhere along the way though, I noticed she started listening to some of what I do, even sending me links to get concert tix. I'm very proud.

My 12-year-old daughter has begun to buy vinyl records, leaning toward artists like Lady Gaga and Tyler the Creator. I don't dig it, but I keep my opinions to myself.

I hope she'll someday come around to bands like Metallica and Stone Temple Pilots and such, but I'll hang back and let it happen organically. I realize anything I recommend is instantly uncool because I'm her dad.

My father was a big country music fan. He always told me I'd appreciate that genre when I got older, but at age 49, I'm still not old enough, I suppose.
