This isn't even the number one reason for not having a child; it's one of many. But since you keep bringing it up:
I've never been to Austria, but I'd like to go. And we usually take two trips a year. One internationally and one domestically. It's not a matter of being able to afford it. I think we'd be fine with one child. And our lifestyle wouldn't necessarily change from that standpoint. It's a matter of what's the best for a child. I couldn't imagine leaving my child for extended periods of time to travel and drink and carry on with my wife.
If you've done extensive traveling, there is no way you would ever suggest traveling with a child 0-7 years old. The places we go aren't really for children. And we have no interest in going to Atlantis or Disney World/Land.

I am sure my parents wish they didn't have me.

Traditional society will tell you otherwise, but the truth is that you can live a very happy and fulfilling life without ever getting married or having kids. I can tell by your post that you are definitely not ready right now. Parenting, when done correctly, is indeed a tremendous amount of work. You don't need kids to be happy. I wish everyone would realize this.

but I wasn't spending weeks in Bora Bora and Austria before kids either
This is pretty much what I was getting at.
On the other hand, I wind down at happy hour most evenings. I eat and drink copiously on vacations. I sleep until noon on weekends. If I didn't give those up, I'd be a shite parent.

and you wonder why voting demographics are trending certain ways...

I'd say taking a week long break from your kids to spend some quality time alone with your wife should be a yearly requirement

like I've said, I have some friends that do it regularly and they don't seem to have issues
we are flying with our 3 year old for the first time in 2 weeks, so we shall see how it is for us, although I don't see it being that big of a deal

kids love exploring mountains and beaches and pretty much anywhere new, so not sure what this means

And you will never know the single greatest thing about being a man. And that is to sit at the head of the table at your favorite restaurant, surrounded by your family, eating and laughing. Maybe your son has his impossibly charming girlfriend and your daughter is laughing and telling jokes and being the apple of your eye. And your wife looks at you and you share a thought with a glance and you know you both are having a spiritual moment about the importance and unbreakable bond of family and the beauty it brings to life. And at the very end you pull out your wallet, and like the "Pater familias" that you are, you pay the bill. Best feeling in the world right there. You don't get that with dinner in year 22 with your wife. The quiet satisfaction of being the Pater familias. I can explain it. But I can't make you feel it. Again though, if you can't nurture and teach and be unselfish, don't have kids OR get married. The kind of people that excel at one, tend to excel at the other.
Those are all good things. I actually grew up in a family like that, although we're not Roman. I have a great family with siblings and great parents.
For some reason, I don't want that though. I'm not sure why.
I have a very loving, caring and unselfish relationship with my fiance and we've been together a long time. I don't think kids need to be part of that equation for us to be well-rounded, unselfish and caring people. I guess that's where we disagree. We're with each other because we care for each other and enjoy the time we spend together. If we decide to have kids in 10 years then so be it, but our getting married isn't about our non-existent kids.

Kids may love doing all those things. That doesn't mean I love the idea of doing all those things with a child.
Kids aren't going to appreciate Venice or Greece. Or long layovers in airports. It's just a different dynamic. If you've traveled a lot without kids, it's really difficult to imagine doing it with kids.

My vacations are usually in pretty adult-geared areas and consist of fine dining and heavyish drinking.

why wouldn't kids love to explore Paris or Rome?
and, of course, not everything in those locations would be kid friendly, just like almost anywhere, but like I said, kids love anywhere new

nurp but go about it the smart way....be financially stable, have a house, have a good support system around you before you plant the seed.
If that means you cant have kids until youre 35+ then so be it. It is a lot more work and stress if you arent stable when you have kids.
And there we have the magic formula that leads to the eradication of the white race.

same here
those vacations are grandparents time (which our parents beg for)
in no way have I implied you wouldn't have to give up some things in life
just that those things that you do give up, probably won't really matter anymore

Having kids doesn't mean you have to stop going to Eyes Wide Shut sex parties. It just means you gotta get a sitter or turn on the TV or something.

Exactly. The first trip I took with my fiance was to Cancun and we were hammered the whole time and had sex the whole time. I know it sounds immature but there's something fun and exciting about traveling and going places and doing adult things, and not having to worry if little johnny wandered off and is about to drown.
