Do airlines save the last row on the plane and not let anyone book those seats?

Let me start by saying I'd never book seats on the fricking last row of an airplane. But I've never seen a seating chart for any flight where the seats on the last row of a plane were available. It's one of those things I've noticed in my time on earth. No matter the time.. how far in advance.. the last row of seats are never available.

I've sat in the last row on a SWA flight in the middle seat. The chick in the window seat, which didn't actually have a window because it's the back of the plane, about had a full on panic attack from being in the back corner. I offered her a valium. She declined. I didn't think I looked like a rapist.

From a revenue standpoint, it’s better for an airline to have one empty seat remaining. It means they priced the seats just right in order to maximize revenue as opposed to having a sold it flight indicating they may have priced all seats not high enough.

I have sat have in the last row several times. One flight was from and NOLA to Austin and there were two seats on the last row on one side. I was sitting alone and one of the stewardess, she was hot, sat next to me. We small talked and that was it.

If I don’t have anywhere pressing go immediately after a flight, I’ll head to the back row on a Southwest flight. Easier access to the shitter for longer flights and the flight attendants are friendlier

Those seats are blocked so passengers can't pick them on their app or a kiosk and can't be randomly assigned by a computer. Airlines block them for things like police escorting nonviolent prisoners or other special needs.

The airline will assign the seats if they need them to accommodate passengers.

Flight attendants love to throw all their shite in that row and try to block it off themselves so no one takes it if they haven't been assigned.

Back of the plane can work out on international flights if the plane is not full. You can stretch out and sleep.

The back rows are the family seats.

You're clearly an amateur flyer... and probably poor.
At least you're happy in your own small world.

This is what I was looking for. Just seemed weird how they're always blocked off.
