Missed your window. First week in December is the best time of the year to go. Low crowds and all the Christmas decorations are up.

Negative. I was just there from 29th - the 8th. The only days that weren't too bad were Monday and Tuesday. The rest of the days were packed with all the people in town for the Pop Warner football and cheer stuff. Disney has pretty much assured itself that the parks will never be empty at any time of year.

Disney needs to change their system. Move to a sports venue like approach. Pre-sell a fixed number of tickets to get into the park for each day of the year. Obviously days like Christmas would be more expensive to buy tickets for. Once a day on the calendar has sold a certain number of tickets it is sold out. This way crowds can be managed.

There was a report they were going to start changing ticket prices to reflect the time of year and demand but you know how it is. They don't want to be seen as pricing any body out, etc. Wonder if they will end up doing it or not.

Any insight will be helpful. Thinking of going next year but was wondering if that's a good time of year to go compared to the summer.

Worst time of the year to go. So crowded at night it will likely take a couple hours after it closes to get back to your hotel. I would avoid a December trip at all costs if I could.

Is Disney really that worth it to be willing to stand in line for hours on any ride you want to go on? I say no.

With the fast pass system it's not too bad. We kept busy the entire day and never really waited in any long lines. They key was to schedule all your fast passes early then go back to the kiosks and get new ones as they day wore on. Don't want to schedule them all TOO early as most of the lines are pretty short early on in the day. IIRC we got 6-7 fast passes the day we were there on one of the busiest days of the year and hit several other attractions that didn't require fastpasses.

Went for New Years. New Year's Eve is the most crowded Disney will ever be. Magic kingdom had contra flow the entire day, and at 9am that stopped letting people in. BUT, on New Year's Eve they do a special fireworks show they only do once a year (they test it out the night before too), and damn was that the most impressive thing I have ever seen. You were surrounded by a ring of fireworks no matter where you stood in the park.

Best time to go IMO is right after thanksgiving. They day thanksgiving is up, they put up all the Christmas stuff and start their Christmas events. And no one is there. Went 5 years ago with my family, and we rode everything in every park at least 4 times. There was never a line.

Recommend both before summer too because the heat with Disney is just terrible.

Change "Thanksgiving" to "Halloween" and this is a true statement.

Thanks for all of the responses. Probably not going to go if it's the busiest time of the year

The problem is park-hopping. As long as that is allowed, I don't know how you could limit ticket sales by park. Further, most ticket sales are not for individual days. You buy a 5 day ticket, and the first day you use it, the clock starts. It's more of a multi-day pass than anything.

I still see this happening at some point - it already happens with room rates and with dining packages.

This is literally THE busiest time of year. We are WDW fanatics and will not go during this week. New Years is off the chart crowded. And if you bring a female good luck trying to use the bathroom!! Women actually have to use men's. EPCOT is a blast for New Years but it will be unreal as far as crowd goes - you can Google - Walt Disney World Crowd calendars and check them out - first week on Jan is great . We usually go first or second week in JAN and then again at Mardi Gras - WDW at Christmas is badass though... they actually start putting lights up before Thanksgiving..

Push it back a week. Cheaper and significantly less crowded. You'll enjoy your trip way more.

Have been to Disney at both Halloween and Christmas/New Years.

Halloween was AWESOME - not to bad of crowds.

Christmas/NY, as the others have said, is ridiculously packed. I enjoyed the heck out of it, but I tend to like the chaos a bit and we were on a special "Make a Wish" type trip so we never had to wait for lines but maybe twice in 10 days.

Not a chance in hell would I do it without it having been that, however.

I went to Magic Kingdom and Epcot this past Thanksgiving (Friday and Saturday). I've heard Thanksgiving weekend is the most crowded time of the year so I was intimidated. It WAS crowded as frick but I had the most fantastic time. I didn't mind the crowd at all.

Here are some tips:
1. Go to Magic Kingdom at when it opens (8AM). All the rides will have no wait or 5~10 minute wait for a while. We got to ride pretty much everything wanted in the park in about 2~3 hours. After that we put ourselves in cruise control and just enjoyed being there. Parade at 3PM was nice and fireworks at 9PM is a must watch.

2. You'll get to use Fastpass+ on 3 rides for free. Download the Disney app and you reserve your fast pass now. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan, and Space Mountain have the longest lines so you might want to use Fastpass on that.

My wife's family used to always go before Christmas because you get the Christmas decorations and events without the crowd. This is the first time we are going with our kids. We check-in on 17th and check-out on 23rd. The last day for Mickey's Christmas parade (separate tickets needed) is December 18th. They claim that you get out before the christmas crowd that really starts arriving on the 23rd. I'll report back.

Bingo
This is how I did it. Gotta get ur arse outta bed and be there waiting for the gates to open. U can knock out a few top rides early on. Then fast pass the others. So right there u may have a small combined wait time for the best 5 to 6 rides.
