Discussion: Is Louisiana dumb or do the other opportunities hinder it?

Louisiana forces every child to take the ACT, if only those encouraged to go to higher education took it would Louisiana perform better in national standards?
Louisiana is also a state that because of the oilfield and offshore area people without a high school degree can make a decent/good living, so does this impact the educational score?
Essentially two questions here: 1. If Louisiana didn't force the ACT test would Louisiana score higher nationally? 2. Does the fact that many believe they can go work for a plant/offshore impact Louisiana's educational impact?
There is more that could go into this but based on a comment from TigerRant I'm curious what those here believe.

I think the simple answer is yes to both.
When you have everyone take something the score will drop.
Then in LA with the offshore work easy to find and paying well it’s easy to slack in education.
It’s not the only reason why la is dead last in education but it’s two factors.

K-12 standardized testing shows y'all to be some dumb motherfrickers, too...it's not just the ACT.

The main problem is demographic. But you're not supposed to mention it.

Subject-verb agreement is not taught in school any longer.

That the people in these parishes keep electing LOL
You would think after 15-20 years of bullshite they would start electing new officials.
I bet if you drove parish to parish you would see a lot of the same folks in power for the past couple of decades who have stacked up years of service to get that sweet sweet retirement off your dime.
So not only did you elect them and they ran shite into the ground or loaded their friends with contracts but they will be living off your dime the rest of their life.
Its absolutely pathetic the people havent seen this with their own eyes and attempted to fix.
Lazy is the only thing that comes to mind. Lazy and drunk.

Definitely strong correlation between demographics and states with bad testing results. Louisiana is also a terribly ran state, that’s not helping at all.

I use to be active at city council and school board meetings. I'd guess well over 90% of the people I vote for don't get elected. Just b/c we live here doesn't mean "we" are the one's who keep electing them. I got 2 years to retirement and I'm off to north Arkansas to counter white liberals from California moving there.

The only reason Louisiana is dumb is because of who people vote for. There is not an overall vision for the state as a whole.
Many people depend on government help for all facets of their life. Thanks Huey and Edwin.
And the educational system is too political, not localized (like Texas) and old rich folks at LHSAA have too much say in the students' well-being.

It's enormous correlation, white students in Louisiana are far and away better with grades, attitude, etc in schools. Your all white schools do unbelievably better. It comes down to black parents, in general, don't care, and most of the black kids don't have a dad. I've sent 3 kids to public schools. My middle child has probably 7-8 black friends, all but 1 doesn't even know who their dad is. The one that does, his dad, is good as gold, one of my best friends. You get him on this subject and he's way harsher about it than I am.

The test is given during school hours to just about every student that goes through the high schools during their junior year. In the past, you had to take it outside of school hours. Yes, the students don’t have a gun to their head, but it is definitely scheduled and encouraged for all of them to take it during the regular school day.
