Hey buddy, take an ACT course and do the homework. If that is too expensive just buy the prep book, sit down for an hour a day, and do the homework.
I brought by English score from a 23 to a 32 doing that for 2 months.

If you're stronger in english or reading than take the SAT instead of the ACT. I scored what was 2 points higher on the SAT than the ACT (granted this was with the old SAT scoring metrics back in the late 90s) and that was enough to get me some meaningful scholarship offers. In the end I took the TOPS/LSU route, but I had some fun visiting Yankee campuses and dreaming about where to go.

How does one get into medical school when they are only capable of a 24 on the act? I'm not calling you a liar, it just seems pretty crazy to me.

ACT won't affect your future. Get what you need for TOPS. Scored 23 first time, 24 a few months later. It got me TOPS. I'm in medical school now.

What prep book did you use?

The very first time I took it I got a 19... but that was in 8th grade. First time I legit took it I got a 27. The second time I got a 33.

Aren't you the kid that was bragging about being smart? I took it once and got a 33.

Dude you dont need anything higher that a 20. Literally stop worrying about it and go apply online to lsu, and in 10 minutes you will an email from them saying congrats. Boom you're in.

If you actually tried and scored a 24 as a HS upperclassman, college might not be for you. I took it as a senior back in 2006 the morning after homecoming, was hungover and dozed off during the science section and still scored a 31.
If you dicked off or took it really early, you're probably ok.

Well, that's a little harsh. He said it was his first time and that he was really nervous. The average ACT score for most incoming freshman at SEC schools will be in the mid-20s. The average score for LSU freshman is 26... Mighty A&M looks to be 27. He'll take it again, probably improve a few points, and be right in the middle of the pack at a lot of pretty good schools.

Nah, just went to a shitty public high school. Lots of kids without the drive to do great things. I saw a valedictorian with a 3r on their ACT become a nurse (not that there's anything wrong with being a nurse). Then my fraternity was filled with guys trying to get into med school. I was an engineering major so I helped a few studying with physics. Some were not the brightest when it came to applying knowledge, but they sure as hell remembered how to do that practice problem enough to get a good grade on the test. Several made it into med school and I don't doubt that they will make great doctors. Just think that guy who became a nurse was smarter. Hell one of the smartest guys I knew is probably in jail. Dude was a human calculator. Ask him what 298764/328 is and he would spit out an answer as fast as you could type it in your calculator. But he never had a great GPA and flunked out of college. I just don't think tests are always THE only indicator. If you didn't apply yourself fully, it's not like the test is going to look past that and truly tell if you deserved a 30. So if you didn't apply yourself or have an additional math class to take or something, there's definitely room for large improvement. I think pretty dumb people can make a good scores if they are good studiers/peppers.

A 6 point jump is pretty substantial but not unattainable.
24 isn't a bad score either.
Truth is, it's tough to study for a test like the ACT, but if you put in some work I could see an improvement in your score. Truth is, you got nothing to lose. Retaking this test and proving to yourself that you can and will work for what you want, regardless of what limits other people put on you, will carry you much farther in life than a 30 score would

These threads are always great on the OT .. A minuscule percentage of people that have ever taken the ACT score 30 or higher .. Yet every time this thread rears its head on here, it is loaded with 30, 32, 33 scores .. You always have one douche that posts their scores as "proof" .. I see this one didn't disappoint with the photoshop ..
The characters may change, but the bullshite never does on this board ..

What's even more funny are the people who act like if you get a 25 that your life is ruined

Bc the admissions committee cared more what I got on my MCAT than what I got on my ACT.
I was a great student in high school, albeit much lazier then than I am today. People made too big a deal about the ACT and I had high anxiety taking it which directly affected my score.

I know someone who cheated on his ACT and ended up scoring like a 27. I have no idea how that worked, but it did and the administration found out about it. Problem is this guy was wasn't the sharpest knife, and was more of a 16 type of guy.
After meeting with the VP about his score, they made him retake it, and he ended up with a 14

Took my first crack at the ACT and and scored a 24.
24 isn't terrible. Average is around 19, iirc. I had a 25 on my first try, never took it again, and I've made out just fine.
If you're looking for special academic scholarships bc of your ACT score then you need to get a higher score.. otherwise, a decent GPA and a 24 on the ACT should get you in.
