re: Diners are leaving smaller tips

My baseline tip is 18% but it's almost never bad enough for that, usually, it's 20%. As the service EXCEEDS expectations, so does the percentage. Bars are $1-$2 per drink.
My biggest issue is the restaurants passing the service fee for them choosing to use "Square" as their transaction service, then passing their business decision onto the customer. Admittedly, I do subtract that fee from the receipt total for tipping.
That's precisely what it means. In simpler terms, you can't afford that restaurant. Why blame the server for your lack of productivity at work, thus not getting an actual cost of living raise?

Just because the menu is 10% higher doesn’t seem like the tip should have to be.

In my case, it's more fatigue with the prices. Of course I have full control over that by simply regulating how much I eat out. But when I pay $15 for a burger I am not tipping you another $10 or $15
You previously tipped 60-100% on hamburgers?

food delivery services (uber eats, door dash, etc) are the worst about this. They ask you to tip at the time you place your order. So you're left in this weird spot of not tipping and the driver knowing you didn't tip and then fricking with your food... or tipping and maybe getting horrible service when the driver didn't deserve a tip. When you're already paying a general service fee plus other upcharges for food delivery, having to decide if a tip is justified at the point of ordering is dumb.

If you already paid and received your food are you going to go to the trouble of adding a tip. I would suspect a very small percentage would/did, that's why it was changed.

Ive stopped going to counter places that have tip machines. I can overlook the jars, but the credit card prompt is over the top.
They pretty much all have them. It’s built in with the card reader.
I guess don’t shop anywhere that uses credit card merchants.

Is Randazzo's in Denham Springs now closed?

No we moved away so we only go now when we come back to visit.
We were very much regulars when we lived close.

My fix is, I tip in cash. Try to carry a few ones with me, then decline on the machine and give a few dollars as deserved in cash.

Shoving the display or credit card machine asking for a tip in your face every time you pick up a to-go order can have a negative impact on people.
'I just ignore the tip stuff at coffee places or places like Chipotle.
I never understood, though, as someone who does rideshare as a side hustle, why tipping taxi drivers is totally normal and expected. Yet, when riders get into my cleaner, more comfortable car and I fight through traffic to get them safely to their destination for a low wafe, all of a sudden, some people don't want to tip.

My food would get delivered. The app would send a notification to ask me to rate my driver and if i wanted to add a tip. It was very easy

I’m saying if a restaurant raises their prices, it doesn’t make sense to me that the tip should also increase. This works both ways. If I go to a sports bar and get a $15 10-wing platter, a 20% tip would be $3. If I go back on Thursday when it’s $0.50 wing night, a 20% tip would be $1. That doesn’t seem very fair to the server.

My general rule is to tip $5-$10 for lunch meals. But not anymore. If I am out to dinner with the family, or a night out with my wife, I would normally tip a good bit more depending on where we are eating.

I get what you're saying and the logic isn't unreasonable. However, in your scenario, servers know when they are hired the restaurant has a wing special. Usually, those are the days that the top servers are off or those servers are given extra tables to supplement the special.
Side note: cheers to wing specials

I'm tipped out.
It has gotten beyond ridiculous.

You're not getting it. Not all restaurants work on that philosophy. People pay they much better than the $3 per hour and then the tip on top. Paying them $15 per hour and tips. The $3 pay is slowly going out of date, and yes some still do it to incentivize them to work for the tip. Most people won't do that unless they work at a full service location where they will get bigger tips.

I refuse to tip in any situation when someone simply hands me my food. Tipping is only for sit-down dining when someone waits on my table. I paid for the food. I'm not gonna pay extra for you to hand it to me.
Before waiting tables at The Chimes, I was "the to-go girl". I answered to-go orders, bagged them, made sure you had utensils, all the dressings, sold concert tickets and merch. I didn't just hand bags of food to people. I'm sure a lot do, but even at 19, I had pride in taking care of the people who called in an order. Tips were never expected (I made minimum wage), but it was appreciated.

When I waited tables, we tipped out a certain percentage of our total "sales" that were split between bus boys and bar tenders.
I've worked at other places where alcohol and bus boys were not present and we did the same for the cooks.
Not sure how it is now.
I also don't recall kitchen staff making minimum wage at sit down restaurants I worked at.
