She asked the parents to leave her restaurant, they refused.

The diner’s owner said she asked the family to leave or take the crying child outside, but they refused, so she slammed her hands down on the counter and told the girl to quiet down.
if she did go to parents first, as claimed, then diner owner is covered
parents that live in a world of ignorant bliss are just the worst

Well we see who sucks at parenting here. If your kid is being an asshat in a restaurant, you take them outside to calm them and if they won't calm, you leave the restaurant. You don't make everyone in the restaurant deal with your piece of shite kid.
It's sad that many parents don't do this. I remember when Alex was about two he had a total meltdown once in a Chili's or some similar place. My wife took him out to the car while I got to-go boxes and paid for our food. We waited until he was about 5 or so before we took him back into a restaurant.

I don't see how anybody reasonable can defend the store owner. This is the parent's fault for sure I agree with that. But for those of you who say you would let a stranger yell at your child and do nothing I can't fathom that. Either yall don't have children or yall are terrible parents. I wouldn't physical hit her but things would have got real. Cussing, yelling making the woman cry that sort of thing. It would have never happened to me because if my daughter cries for more than 3-4 minutes I either take her outside or do whatever to calm her down. The parents sound like punks but so does the store owner. And yes there are some people who would have escalated it to physical assault. Those people are trashy but no less trashy then yelling at a child you don't know.

Screaming children like good intentions, should be carried out immediately..
But srsly.. I don't care who the frick you are.. someone yelling at my child won't end well..

People saying this wouldn't have shitty kids who cause a scene warranting outside intervention in the first place because they don't practice shitty parenting. So the premise behind your whole post is completely flawed to begin with.

So you think only out of control children cry in public. I found another non-parent in this thread. And I agree it takes bad parents to let it get to that point. That still doesn't excuse a stranger yelling at a child ever. You always address the parents.

When did everyone get so damn sensitive...shite, it was a kid making noise in a restaurant.....not everyone parents like you or I may do, it is a public place that allows kids...you have to expect some crying or some type of disruption if you go into a diner.
We have a generation of folks that don't look up from their phones while dining, so I suppose a childs cries could be pretty damn traumatic.

I think the point is, even at the point, don't direct your frustration to the kid, but if you want to raise your voice and slam your hands down, do it towards the parents.

Watch the interview.
Parents weren't feeding the kid. Kid was screaming at top of her lungs. Come on. Its about time we started having order in society again.

Crying and whining is annoying. Throwing an extended fit means you need to handle business. No one likes your kids as much as you do, and people need to stop acting like their children are special to everyone else.

I would be very upset if someone yelled at my child. However, I have no problem with someone scolding me if I fail to control my child in a restaurant. I have a 2 year old and when she starts crying/screaming I immediately get and bring her outside.
Bottom line yell at child your am arse hole. Yell at parents is acceptable.

the diner owner made the decision that the parents did not care about her business or her patrons, so she made a judgment call
i probably would have addressed the parents a second time
after that, a public shaming would have been in order. top of lungs apology to restaurant for the inattentive parents who insisted on letting their little one pitch a fit in the restaurant.
