BR isn't a cheap housing market.

Which is mind boggling to me. Do we have the white collar/professional jobs to sustain home prices above $750,000? I know we have a thriving blue collar/ petrochemical industry, but I often wonder where the money is coming from for some of these steep asking prices.

I agree, I personally know doctors that couldn't afford that much for a house. That's a whole lot of house for a pastor.

Lol gotcha. I’m kinda relieved. We’ll go to healing place every so often and while I’m completely against mega churches the pastor there seems like a genuinely nice guy. And it’d be crazy if that was his house since I think he’s only been the pastor since Dino got run off. Maybe 4 years.

But he might live in a million dollar mansion for all I know.

To others points. It’s just disenginous when a pastor makes buckets of money for “spreading the word”. I don’t care what kind of speaking engagements he has.

Me too. I think LSU/state government, the plants and small businesses prop it up but it does sort of defy logic. I live in a cheap house for our income so I'm not contributing to the housing inflation. I also pay 11k per year for private school so there's that

I would believe a lot more about what they were saying if they were all in. No way you are all in with African missions and new buildings and youth groups and helping the local poor and live in that kind of house. If they believed what they were preaching they would be giving all their free money to the causes.

Well y’all going to really hate this but your very own Baton Rouge home grown Pastor who’s built the largest church in Alabama has Dino Rizzo working for him in Birmingham.

I’ve met Chris and has heard him preach many times and he’s as real as can be. Say what you want but this guy earns every penny he keeps.

Lol at paying that much for a house like that in Baton Rouge

I love BR but this is a good point. People buying houses like they vacation in. Except the only thing you can walk to is Bistro Byronz and a Circle K

I doubt just being a Pastor of a church pays enough to afford that house.

Pastors especially at larger churches make an absolute killing. It’s pretty shady to be honest

Diocesean priests don’t take a vow of poverty. Just those belonging to a religious order.

Speaking from first-hand experience, SBC pastors in mid-level (approx 200 member churches) top out around $70K. Our pastor may have creeped just above that number in the most recent budget. Other ancillary ministers/ministry probably has a (combined) similar budget, so all the manpower to run a 200 member church costs somewhere less than $150K per year. Pastor lives in a solid $260K house, though he's probably living in a little nicer place because (1) his wife works and (2) he has a pretty decent inheritance from his folks.

The pastor of First Baptist in this little burg of less than 10,000 people makes over $100K plus car and housing allowances.
