My favorite was my Uncle Robert, my Mom’s older brother. He was cool and quite the character. He loved horror movies and I used to sit with him and watch them when I would come to visit. He was more like a second Dad than my Uncle, we were close.

Who was your favorite Aunt or Uncle? What do you remember about them the most?

My favorite was actually a great uncle, my mom's uncle. Uncle Renne was a rice farmer but had lived an interesting life, had been a cowboy in Texas in his younger days, and did a few other things. He looked like he was in his 40s into his early 70's until he was hurt in a farming accident. He went downhill very fast after that, sadly.

What I remember most is even when I was very young, he talked to me and treated me like a person rather than another kid. My mom's dad, his brother, died when she was very young, still a baby, and I think he always had a soft spot for my mom because of that.

I haven't thought of him in a few years, thank you for making me think about this, it's good to remember special people in your life.

I absolutely have a favorite Aunt. I call her Pete. We've been best friends my entire life.

I talked to her 4 times last week, and that's pretty typical for us. She knows me better than anyone in the world and vice versa.

But with our deep bond also comes tough love. She calls me out on my bullshite. Will tell me when I'm wrong. Won't sugar coat the truth. But sometimes that's good.

I love her. I'm going to call her now.

So make that 5 times this week I'll talk to her.

Absolutely, we spent weeks on end staying with them in the country. Only fond memories of it.

My favorite was my uncle Russell. Uncle Sam trained him to be a BAR man, but his dad got TB and they sent him home to run the farm and take care of his mama, which he did until she passed. He took me hunting and fishing and had a great sense of humor. He was basically my grandfather on my dad's side. He never had anything until after my grandmother died and they mined coal on the farm. All of a sudden, he had money and was the most eligible bachelor in the community. Married, and then buried, two wives.

You’re lucky. My aunt was my best friend. My mom’s younger sister. I was always with her, just spent time with her on school breaks and was just her buddy.

She died at the age of 34. Maybe a day goes by I don’t think of her, but not many. I’ve missed her for 33 years and always will. Because I was a dumbass, I never told her exactly how much she meant to me. I know she knew but still…

Aunt in Oklahoma had cattle lived with her summers of my 13 and 14 year.
I had my own truck, motorcycle and a 22 rifle to shoot jack rabbits to stop them from eating the Milo. Good times
Now the work stacking hay and other ranch/ farm was hard but worth it.
My Uncle smoked red box, drank St Paulie beer and read the Wall street journal
Rinding in the truck with him checking fences was quiet but learned a lot about hard work Sun up to sun down. Had the coolest smartest cattle dog ever, Rosco.
Both passed on as that was years ago but great memories and stories from those summers.

I had two uncles. One was extroverted, always joking around and pulling pranks. The other was more reserved but always kind and generous. The first was my favorite when I was young. As I grew older I came to appreciate the second one more.

As a kid I'd spend a good part of the summer with my great aunt in Charleston, SC near the battery. She always had her little 32 special. She lived to 101 years.

My favorite uncle died when I was 5. He was a freshman in HS, was a supertar in all varsity sports (set records) lived on a farm, had a horse, german shepherd, hundreds of acres and enjoyed spending time on the farm with my brother and I.

He drowned when I was 5. His old HS has a memorial outside the football field.

A rare person, gifted athlete and amazing role model.

My uncle Ken. Did a tour in Viet Nam with the Marines, then drove truck for 30plus years. Couldn't stay settled down, married and divorced 4 times, died of a massive stroke at 55.
He deserved a lot better.

Yes, my Uncle Bob... He's the one who taught me all the good and bad things in life. Taught me how to hunt and fish.

He was the best man in my wedding.

I answered the door when he came home from Vietnam, my mom, his oldest sister, started to hug and kiss on him because he came home earlier than he was supposed to, and surprised her. I remember thinking, who is this guy..

He came to our house because his mom and dad, my grandparents, weren't home and all he had were large bills so he needed small bills to pay the cabbie. He tells my mom, "I need a 20 to pay this n***** cab driver." Remember it till this day, I was 4. He's also the funniest man I know.

He's still kicking in his late 70's, he tells people, still wearing blue jeans, and still chasing women. I saw him knock down 4 Wood ducks back to back, with two consecutive shoots, I would've never believed it if I wasn't there. We had my dog working her arse off that day.

I imagine you were important to him as well

A way to reconnect with their humanity that the war and reception took from them

I had good Aunts, my Aunt Judy is the best.

It wasn’t until I got married that I realized how great my family is.
I thought it was normal that every family was loving/together/supportive.
