It's sad, and I know the lady's family who died last year has a suit against the state about it. She was less than a 1/2 mile from that location and died along with her newborn. There was at least one already this year that I know of.

Am I missing something in that the first pic shows the car in the trees and the last one shows it going into a lake?

Sometimes a harsh dose of reality is needed.

Just a closer pic taken in front of the trees you see in the first pic

"Every couple of months" may be an exaggeration slightly, but it is MULTIPLE occasions a year.

Can't say, but that is a tough curve to navigate especially if a driver is not paying attention, going too fast or over corrects if tire goes off the road.

It's certainly a dangerous place to try and fish.

I was on Bluff about the same time as the accident. It did rain for about 20 minutes. Enough to get the roads slick.

People living in that area need to make a clamor about getting a guard rail put up, especially considering frequency of accidents.

Damn that is horrible for everyone involved. Really depressing seeing the cork in that pic knowing one of the kids may have been using it.

DUTCHTOWN — Two young children were killed and three adults injured Tuesday afternoon in Ascension Parish after a SUV went off Bluff Road and crashed into a group of people fishing in a roadside bayou, State Police said.

A Nissan Armada was southbound on Bluff Road, south of Interstate 10 and north of Bluff Oaks Avenue, at about 3:30 p.m. when it ran off the road and into the fishing party, said Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman.

The identities of the victims weren’t immediately released, but Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said the children were 6 and 9. The three injured adults suffered minor to moderate injuries and were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Driver impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Based on an initial investigation, troopers suspect the SUV veered off the road and into an embankment before sliding roughly 100 feet and striking the fishing party, police said.

“We’re still trying to figure out exactly what happened,” Sandifer said.

The Prairieville Fire Department and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation.

Wiley said people regularly fish the area of the bayou where the crash happened, which is situated on a “significant curve” on Bluff Road where the bayou crosses under it through a culvert.

The road runs along the eastern edge of the large Bluff Swamp and the Spanish Lake Basin and is generally wooded along the western side.

Wiley said Bluff Road is closed between the I-10 overpass at Perkins Road, which is near the parish line, and C. Braud Road in Dutchtown.

The investigation remained active Tuesday evening.

I drive this road 20 times a week. I refuse to use it more than necessary at night or in rain. I'll take longer way(73 to c braud)
