Did the original Defender arcade game have 2 player mode?

Just started looking around for a full size arcade game and stumbled upon this pic. I don't remember Defender having a 2 player mode but it's been decades since I played one.
What was your favorite arcade game?

The 7-11 down the street had that one circa 1982ish.

As a former Defender player myself, I do not remember a 2-stick version in arcades in the 80s. I see pictures of them, now, but I'm not sure if those aren't multi-game conversions or, perhaps, later models.
I thought 2 player Defender was alternating, not co-op/competitive like some eg Joust, were.
(ETA: That pic is a modern build, likely with multigame capability and some of its games will use the 2p mode.)

Somebody didnt play Defender.
I dont remember the game having dual controls. I remember playing 2 player but not head to head or teams. You took turns with only one joystick.
Original Defender looked like this

Got our Nintendo in 1986 I think. My first game was Defender II. I can confirm Defender II on NES had 2 player mode.

Are you maybe thinking of Missile Command? I think it had a trackball.

I don't remember a two person option. Usually, your dumb-arse friends were standing there yelling at you to "reverse! reverse!" - good times

Joust was another good one.

Anyone remember obscure 80s arcade game Gladiator? Side scrolling combat, good not great.
Any way…
I ate an edible last night and dreamt I was playing it at a pizza place in the Dayton Mall.

I loved the tournaments at the arcades on some of the games.
Winner would get stuff like new video games, free arcade money, shirts, etc.
So much freaking fun

I think you’re confusing Defender with Centipede.

Arcade 1Up machines are reproductions that are (usually) a lot cheaper than buying and repairing original machines. You can see their logo on that picture on the bezel artwork beneath the marquee.
They make changes from the original hardware and artwork on many of their machines.

Trying to find some 80s arcade pics online, and the few I'm seeing (if they are real) don't seem to show two player controls.
The way their arms are seem to show no 2P mode:
Not an old picture but also shows no 2P controls:

This was the GOAT…
No telling how many quarters I pumped into this game at the Gadsden Mall back in the 80s.
