Had a river rat on the Louisiana Sportsman Facebook page arguing with me about how it needed to be opened or it was going to be a disaster for BR and NOLA.

Well, it stopped raining. We, as well as the midwest, had been getting pelted with rain. The gamble of leaving the spillway closed was that rain would continue up north and overwhelm the levees. The danger of opening it was that rain would fall down here and Morgan City would be annihilated. The forecasters decided not to open it because it looked like the rains would slack off, and they have. Louisiana peeps were justified in being skeptical of the rain forecasts, but the weather actually cooperated for a change rather than go straight for worst case scenario as we are accustomed to.
