Yes they did.

This explains a lot.

And yet the Yankees still couldn’t capture Shreveport.

When we ran out of bullets we powdered an alligator’s behind, when we lit it off the gator lost his mind

It pretty much explains that Forts Jackson and St Philip weren’t worth a frick.

Yes, and no.

Dumbass commanders did not expect an attack from the Gulf/up the river, but from the north.

Once Farragut broke past Fort Phillip and Jackson, the Confederates abandoned defense of the city.

During the Union occupation the ladies of New Orleans would dump their chamber pots full of poo out the window and onto Union soldiers.

Always fascinates me the amount of TD posters that say "we" when referring to the Confederacy.

What's funny is that, if you cross referenced their other posts on here, I'm sure they are the same people who are telling the libs to leave "their" country if they don't like that Trump won.

The Union Fleet was anchored in the river and would have bombarded the city. Once they passed the forts downriver there was no defense. There weren't even any organized Confederate troops in New Orleans proper. The mayor surrendered the city.

My ancestors fought for the Confederacy but really the war couldnt have turned out any other way. The Union had too much of everything. The only reason it lasted as long as it did was it took Lincoln 2 1/2 years to find some competent generals.

Why is it funny? The confederacy left to form their own country to hold their own laws and protect their way of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness from the Union.
If the libs want to leave the country, fine. If they want to try and take Washington, Oregon and California to form a new country, fine. We will see how that goes for them

Untrue.
There were a lot of turning points in the war.
Had France agreed to help financially, we (the south) would have won.

When Union forces under Admiral David Farragut captured the city in April 1862, Confederate leaders made a calculated decision not to mount a vigorous defense. A battle would have likely resulted in extensive destruction to the city’s infrastructure, historic landmarks, and civilian population, which could have caused irreparable damage to its cultural heritage and economic power. Also, the Union’s overwhelming naval superiority was a factor.

Preserving the city, even at the cost of surrender, was viewed as a necessary sacrifice, as the Confederacy hoped to eventually retake New Orleans intact.
